)Overview
Debug and troubleshoot Microsoft Dynamics 365 in your browser: form scripts, plug-ins, trace logs, metadata and record data.
RTU Dev Tools helps developers customize and debug Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM right in the browser. Use it when building new features, changing forms and scripts, or tracking down bugs in an existing CRM. It lets you browse data and metadata, test form behavior, edit JavaScript and check plug-ins and their trace logs. It works in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Apps model-driven apps. When preparing a change, you can find where a specific field, script or other component is used and what it depends on. The tools open right on the page you are working on. The extension uses your own sign-in and permissions. It sends no data to the developer or any third party. It changes data in Dynamics 365 only after you confirm it. • Record info: Shows the entity, record ID and form type. You can copy the entity name and record ID. • Unlock form: Unlocks locked fields, shows hidden ones and temporarily removes required-field checks on the form. One more click restores the original state. This action never saves the record. • Logical names: Switches field labels to logical names and back. • Field information: A searchable list of fields including header, business process flow and composite fields. It also shows option set values. For testing, you can change a field value on the form. The extension never saves it and shows a warning when the form auto-saves. • Form debugging: Microsoft's documented switches to disable form event handlers, libraries, web resource controls, the business process flow or the command bar. They apply only to your current session and do not change the configuration in Dynamics 365. Active switches are clearly marked on the page. The command checker is also available. • Plug-in Trace Viewer: Filter and inspect plug-in trace logs when tracking down errors and checking how plug-ins ran. You can also change the trace log setting after confirming it. • Form Scripts: Shows the libraries and event handlers registered on the form, the web resources embedded in the form including scripts inside HTML web resources, and the JavaScript of ribbon commands, grid icons, editable grid events and subgrid command bars. You can view the source code of each web resource. The code of unmanaged JavaScript, HTML and CSS web resources can be edited. Before saving a script, the extension checks that the functions the form calls are still there. Saving and publishing happen after you confirm the changes. From the form you can jump to the plug-ins and trace logs of its entity. • DevTools panel "RTU Form Scripts" (F12): After you open DevTools with F12, it shows the form's event handlers and web resources. One click takes you to the function definition or to an HTML web resource and its scripts in Sources, where you can set a breakpoint. • Metadata Browser: Browse fields, option sets, lookups and relationships including their type of behavior, such as Parental or Referential. You can copy the data as Markdown or JavaScript. • Plug-in Viewer: An overview of registered assemblies, plug-ins and their steps. From a step you can open its trace logs. Read-only. • Analyze Current Context: Prepares a Markdown summary of the current form and its customization, with fields, relationships and plug-in steps. You can paste it into the AI assistant of your choice as a basis for working on CRM changes. Record values and trace logs are added only if you tick the option. • Task Analyzer: Checks a development task against your environment's metadata. You can copy the result as Markdown for further work with AI. • Record search: Search records by entity and simple conditions, choose the columns shown in the results and open the form of a selected record. You can copy the query with the same columns as FetchXML, JavaScript or C#. • Find components: Search customizations by name or definition text. Covers entities, fields, relationships, choices, processes and flows, custom APIs, plug-ins, web resources, forms and views. Searching for the logical name of an entity also finds its forms, views, processes and custom APIs. Results are grouped by type. One click shows dependencies and where the component is used, and names open in the Metadata Browser or Plug-in Viewer. Read-only. • All record data: Shows every field and value of the record. You can edit values. Before saving, you see a summary of changes and must confirm it explicitly. A concurrency check is included. Developer mode lets you try to write to fields that are normally read-only, for example to test a plug-in, and then shows which values Dynamics 365 did not accept. Calculated, rollup and derived fields always stay read-only. Changes are saved via the Web API with your own permissions. • Shortcuts: Quick access to Advanced Find and the command checker. • Impersonation: Test as another Dynamics 365 user in one browser tab. It uses the Web API caller ID and requires the "Act on Behalf of Another User" privilege. Active impersonation is clearly marked in the tab and on the extension icon in the toolbar. • Custom Dynamics 365 servers: The extension also works with Dynamics 365 on your own server. Add its address in Settings. The extension requests access only to that address. • Copy as Markdown: Results of the tools, such as form scripts, ribbon commands, metadata, plug-ins, record data and search results, can be copied as Markdown for documentation or for an AI assistant. • Help page: A short description of every button and tool, opened from the extension popup or Settings. • Classic web client: Form actions also work in the classic Dynamics 365 web client on your own server, where the form is shown in a frame. • Action labels: Every action is labelled READ, LOCAL or WRITE in advance, so you see whether it will only read data, work locally in the browser, or write changes to Dynamics 365. • Plug-in configuration: Configuration values are hidden as ******** and shown only after a click. They are never included in copies or exports. • Interface and settings: Light and dark theme, English and Czech UI. Settings also include an optional donation link. Loaded data is processed locally in your browser. Records, metadata and user names for impersonation are never sent to the developer or any third party. Changes to the trace log setting, record values and JavaScript, HTML and CSS web resources are made only after you confirm a summary of changes, with your own permissions.
