Offline Password Generator
Overview
Generate strong random passwords and memorable diceware passphrases. Fully offline - nothing ever leaves your browser.
Offline Password Generator creates strong random passwords and memorable diceware passphrases directly in your browser. There is no server, no account, and no network access of any kind - the extension physically cannot send anything anywhere. TWO WAYS TO GENERATE Password mode gives you a length slider from 8 to 64 characters and independent toggles for capitals, digits and symbols (lowercase is always on). The "exclude look-alike characters" option is enabled by default, so you will never have to guess whether you are looking at a zero or a capital O, or a lowercase L or a capital i. Passphrase mode builds diceware phrases from the EFF long wordlist of 7776 words. Pick two to ten words, choose whether to capitalise them, whether to append a digit to each, and how they are joined - hyphen, space, period, comma, underscore, a random number, or a random number plus a symbol. READABLE OUTPUT Every generated value is colour-coded character by character, so digits and symbols stand out from letters when you need to read one aloud or type it into another device. One click copies it; one click makes a new one. AN HONEST STRENGTH METER The meter reports the exact entropy of what was generated, in bits: length times the log2 of the character pool for passwords, and word count times log2(7776) for phrases, plus whatever the added digits and random separators contribute. A badge translates that into plain language, from Very weak to Very strong. What it deliberately does not show is a "time to crack". Any such figure has to assume a guess rate, and the real rate is decided by how the service you are signing up to stores your secret - it ranges across roughly eight orders of magnitude depending on the hashing involved. A generator cannot know where its output will be used, so a single number would be invented, and it would go stale as hardware improves. Bits need no assumptions, and unlike a crack time they never top out, so the reading keeps responding at every step of the slider. This is also not a guessability heuristic. Those exist to score secrets that humans invented; for uniformly random output, the mathematics is the more truthful answer. DEFAULTS THAT STICK The options page lets you set the theme (system, light or dark) and the parameters the popup should open with. Changes save as you make them and stay in sync between the popup and the options page. PRIVACY - No network requests. No analytics. No telemetry. No advertising. - One permission: storage, used solely to remember your own settings on your own device. - No content scripts and no host access, so the extension cannot see the pages you browse. - Generated values are never written to storage - they live in the popup while it is open, and nowhere else.
