Overview

Stop squinting. Use Oculist to find text on any page and see it instantly.

Chrome's find-in-page buries your match in a faint yellow box. On a dense article, a long code file, or a busy layout, you end up hunting for the thing you just searched for. Oculist replaces that highlight with an animated beacon fired directly on the active match, so you see exactly where it is the moment it's selected. ★ TWELVE VISUAL EFFECTS Anime Laser, Spotlight, Warp Drive, Inferno Flame, Lightning, Electron Cloud, Pointing Arrows, Bloom, Trail, Speed Lines, Chrono Tunnel, and Cyber-Vision. Speed Lines blasts horizontal light streaks outward from the match in your beacon color; Chrono Tunnel rushes kaleidoscopic rings outward in a slit-scan smear; Cyber-Vision overlays scanlines, a sweeping bar, thermal blocks, and targeting brackets with a live match readout. Switch anytime from the settings panel — your choice saves automatically. ★ SEARCH FOR MULTIPLE TERMS AT ONCE The find bar now keeps a working list of search terms, shown as chips with their own hit counts. One term is active at a time, but matches for the other terms stay visible on the page as dim background highlights, so you always know where they are. Save a working list under a name to load, rename, or delete it later — saved lists sync across your devices via Chrome's own settings sync. ★ BUILT FOR VISION ACCESSIBILITY A 3-question setup wizard calibrates Oculist on first install. Predefined profiles for Low Vision, Deuteranopia, Protanopia, Tritanopia, and Eye Strain, plus granular control over beacon size, animation speed, match labels, motion sensitivity, and color palette. An optional Magnifier overlay enlarges the active match's own text beside it. WCAG 2.1 AA: fully keyboard navigable and screen-reader friendly, and now honors your operating system's reduced-motion setting automatically. ★ WORKS ON REAL PAGES Built on Chrome's native CSS Custom Highlight API and the Web Animations API. Oculist only ever adds its own overlay, a style element, and match markers — it never modifies or transmits the page's own content, so it works cleanly on dynamic, JavaScript-heavy pages. One site ships disabled by default and falls through to Chrome's native find; flip it back on anytime from the popup. ★ KEEPS UP WITH DYNAMIC CONTENT Infinite feeds swap text out from under a search. Oculist watches for those changes and re-scans, so highlights never silently vanish — without yanking your scroll position back to the match while you're reading elsewhere. It also warns you on canvas-rendered pages like Google Docs, where no find overlay can reach the text. ★ LIGHT ON LOW-SPEC MACHINES Lite Mode detects low-core devices and automatically switches to a lightweight CSS-only effect with a longer debounce, and counts inactive search terms without materializing them on the page. You can also enable Lite Mode by hand. ★ FAMILIAR CONTROLS Press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) — Oculist takes over the native find bar. Enter and Shift+Enter cycle matches, Escape closes. Press Ctrl+Shift+F (Cmd+Shift+F on Mac) to toggle the finder from anywhere. Turn Oculist off for any individual site and Chrome's own find bar comes right back.
