OCR.chat: Image to Text OCR

Extract text from any image or screenshot: right-click a picture or capture part of a page, then copy, save or ask about it.

OCR.chat turns any image on the web into text you can copy. Right-click a picture, or capture part of a page, and the text appears in the side panel, ready to copy, save as a .txt file or ask questions about. Image to text, without leaving the page Screenshots, scanned documents, photos of signs, infographics, slides, receipts and charts all hold text you cannot select. OCR.chat reads that text with optical character recognition (OCR) and shows it next to the page you are on. Features • Extract text from an image: right-click a picture on any web page and choose "Extract text from this image". • Capture an area of the page: click the toolbar button or right-click the page, choose "Capture an area of this page" and drag over the text you want. It works on a paused video frame, a canvas, a PDF open in the browser or a page that blocks copying. • Paste a screenshot: press Ctrl+V in the popup or the side panel to read an image from your clipboard. • Drop or choose an image file. • Copy the text with one click, or download it as a .txt file. • Ask about the text: ask a question about what was read, or ask for a translation or a summary. Answers are written by AI, and every answer has a Report button. • Side panel: keep the results open next to the page while you work. • Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+Shift+O opens the popup and Alt+Shift+C starts an area capture. • The interface is available in 48 languages. Languages it reads Automatic mode reads Latin-script languages such as English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Turkish and Vietnamese, as well as Chinese and Japanese. For Russian, Ukrainian and other Cyrillic text, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Hindi, Marathi, Korean, Thai, Greek, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, choose the language in Settings, or let it follow your browser language. Daily limit and optional account No sign-up is needed. Each browser gets a number of pages a day at no cost, and the extension tells you when the day's limit is reached. If you already have an OCR.chat account, you can add your API token in Settings so pages count against your account. Privacy The extension reads nothing and sends nothing until you ask. When you do, only the image you chose is sent to OCR.chat to extract its text. If a site does not let the extension read a picture, the address of that one picture is sent instead and OCR.chat downloads it. A random install ID is sent to count the daily limit. Images and results are deleted from OCR.chat's servers shortly after processing and are never used to train AI models. The extension only gets access to a tab when you click its button, use its menu or press its shortcut, it does not run on the pages you visit in the background, and it contains no analytics or advertising code.
