Occam
Overview
Detects advertising by structure instead of by filter list.
Most ad blockers work from a list. They match every page against a giant, curated set of known ad domains and CSS selectors, and the moment an ad network rotates to a fresh domain, that list is a step behind. Occam takes a different approach. It never looks anything up. Instead it reads the structure of the page — creative dimensions and ad-shaped aspect ratios, whether a frame comes from a third-party origin, markup and script fingerprints, page geometry, "Sponsored" disclosure labels, and the AdChoices badge — and scores each element into a single verdict. Because nothing is matched against a list, nothing goes stale when networks rotate domains, and sites no list has ever seen are covered on the very first visit. It runs aggressively by default. If it ever hides something you wanted, a built-in element picker lets you un-hide it in one click, and Occam remembers that choice for the site. What it does: - Detects ads from page structure and heuristics — no filter lists, no subscriptions to update. - Designed to catch ads that list-based blockers miss, including brand-new and rotating ad hosts. - Suppresses in-player video pre-rolls and closes pop-under / pop-up windows. - Pushes through anti-adblock walls, with a reader-mode fallback when a wall won't clear. - One-click "un-hide" element picker to reverse anything wrongly hidden, per site. - Three aggressiveness levels and a per-site disable list. Everything runs on your device. Occam has no server, no analytics, no accounts, and makes no network requests of its own — nothing about your browsing ever leaves your machine. Free.
