Saved Tab Groups for Comet

Keeps closed tab groups on your bookmarks bar so you can reopen them with one click, as Chrome does. For Comet.

In Chrome, closing a tab group doesn't lose it: the group stays on your bookmarks bar, ready to reopen. In Comet, closing a tab group deletes it. This extension brings the Chrome behaviour to Comet. Close a tab group (or its last tab, or the window it's in) and within about a second it appears on your bookmarks bar as a coloured dot with the group's name. Click it and the whole group comes back, with its name, colour and tabs in their original order. WHAT IT DOES • Saves a tab group automatically when you close the group, close its last tab, or close a window that contains it. • Leaves alone groups you only "ungroup", because those tabs stay open. • Shows each saved group on the bookmarks bar as one item: a dot in the group's colour plus its name. • When more groups are saved than fit, the least recently used move into a "⊞" folder at the end of the bar. Opening one from there brings it back to the bar. • If a group is already open, clicking its item switches to it instead of opening a copy. • The toolbar button lists every saved group with its colour, name, tab count and status (open, on the bar, or in ⊞). Open or delete groups from there. • To delete a group for good, right-click its item on the bookmarks bar and choose Delete, or right-click any page in the group and choose "Delete tab group". • Protects Google Meet calls: if you click a saved group on the bookmarks bar during a Meet call, the browser first asks "Leave site?", so the call doesn't end by accident. Choose Stay to keep the call, then Cmd-click (Ctrl-click on Windows) the group to open it in a new tab. SETTINGS • Bar limit (1 to 30, default 8): how many saved groups show directly on the bar. • Save groups when I close a window (on by default). • Show open groups on the bookmarks bar (on by default, as in Chrome). Changes apply immediately. GOOD TO KNOW • Comet's own "Delete Group" menu item only closes the group here, because Comet doesn't tell extensions the difference between Close and Delete. Use the delete options above instead. • It works on one computer. With bookmark sync on, the group items appear on your other devices but only work where the extension is installed. • The "⊞" folder is an ordinary bookmarks folder, not Chrome's built-in overflow menu, which extensions can't create. • When you create a group or change its colour, a background tab opens for about half a second so the browser can show the coloured dot. These pages can appear in your history. • Groups closed before you installed the extension can't be recovered. • The bar arranges itself: if you drag a saved group to another spot, it moves back. • Your bookmarks bar must be visible (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+B) to see saved groups. PRIVACY Everything stays on your device. The extension makes no network requests, has no account, no analytics and no ads, and sends none of your data to anyone. Saved groups (names, colours, tab titles and addresses) are kept in the extension's local storage and in a bookmarks folder named "Comet Tab Groups (data)". If browser bookmark sync is on, your browser syncs those bookmarks like any others.
