Overview

Keep tabs on your tabs. New tab page that groups your open tabs by domain and lets you close them with style.

# English Translation Got too many tabs open? The tab bar is cluttered and you can barely tell what you have opened? Quiet Tab replaces Chrome’s default new tab page. It automatically groups all your open tabs by website, paired with a quick-link launcher and a read-later list. All data is stored locally in your browser only — no registration required, zero cloud sync and zero tracking. It doesn’t aim to do everything. It only focuses on helping you clearly view your open tabs and quietly close the unnecessary ones efficiently. ## Core Features 1. **Auto Grouping by Domain** The extension scans all your open tabs and organizes them into cards by website. Homepages of sites like Gmail, X, YouTube and LinkedIn are sorted into a dedicated Homepage group for separate management. You can close single tabs within each card or close all tabs in one click. 2. **Quick Link Launchpad** Pin frequently-used websites on the new tab page with auto-loaded circular favicons. Support one-click addition of current pages, drag-and-drop sorting, and highlight hints for already opened pages. 3. **Read Later & Archive** Save tabs to your read-later list with one tap before closing them. Mark items as read to archive. The archive section supports search and hiding, offering a temporary space for tabs you don’t want to view right now yet hate to close. 4. **Duplicate Tab Detection** Opened the same URL multiple times? A top banner will send you a reminder. Close redundant copies in one click and keep only one. 5. **Smooth Tab Closing Experience** Enjoy smooth transition animations when closing tabs. When all tabs are closed, it displays a gentle line: *All tabs cleared. You’re free.* 6. **Light & Dark Mode + Bilingual Support** Switch between warm paper-style light mode and calm dark mode in one click. The interface automatically switches between Chinese and English following your system language settings. ## What We Will Never Do If you worry about improper data usage by extensions, Quiet Tab is designed to never hold any of your personal data: - No collection of personal information (no email, name or phone number needed) - No access to your browsing history - No reading of webpage content (the extension never injects scripts into any websites) - No built-in analytics or tracking tools (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel or error reporting) - No external network requests - No account registration or login required ## Data Storage All data is saved in Chrome’s native `chrome.storage.local`, namely the local browser data folder on your device. All stored data will be permanently deleted once you uninstall the extension with no residual records left. ## Chrome Permission Explanation All declared permissions and their specific uses: - **tabs**: Read URLs and titles of open tabs for domain-based grouping and display - **activeTab**: Obtain information of the active tab when you save the current page via the toolbar - **storage**: Locally store your quick links, read-later lists and theme preferences - **favicon**: Display site icons via Chrome’s built-in favicon service This extension never applies for high-risk permissions including history, cookies, webRequest and host permissions. Technically, it cannot access your browsing history, cookies or intercept network requests. ## Origin of the Name "Quiet Tab" Most tab management tools pile up numerous functions: colored grouping, rule systems, AI summaries and cross-device sync. Quiet Tab keeps things simple and understated, sticking to the core needs — sorting out tabs and clearing them neatly. A new tab page should be a peaceful transition space, not another source of anxiety. Quiet Tab is 100% free with no paywalls, ads or in-app purchases, and open-sourced under the MIT License.
