NPIVerify
Overview
Instantly look up NPI provider data from NPPES. Right-click any NPI on any page, or search from the toolbar w/ freshness indicators.
NPIVerify is a lookup tool for healthcare professionals who work with NPI numbers every day — credentialing specialists, provider network managers, revenue cycle teams, and anyone who needs to verify provider data without breaking their workflow. See an NPI on a webpage? Right-click it. Get the full provider record in under 3 seconds. That's it. No new tab. No copy-paste into an external site. No account. No subscription. NPPES is a free public registry run by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and NPIVerify gives you a direct line to it from wherever you're working. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── HOW IT WORKS ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 1. Select an NPI number on any web page 2. Right-click → "Look up NPI in NPPES" 3. The provider card opens instantly in a popup 4. Copy, export, or just read — no tab switching required You can also click the NPIVerify icon in your toolbar to search any NPI manually. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── WHAT YOU GET ON EVERY LOOKUP ────────────────────────────────────────────────── For Individual Providers (Type 1): • Full name and credentials (MD, DO, RN, NP, PA-C, etc.) • Primary specialty with NUCC taxonomy code and state license number • Additional specialties • Primary practice address and phone • NPI issue date and last updated date For Organizations (Type 2): • Legal business name and DBA name • Organization type and primary specialty • Authorized official name, title, and phone • All practice locations (with "Show all" toggle for organizations with many sites) • NPI issue date and last updated date Both types include: • Active or Deactivated status • Data freshness indicator (see below) • One-click export to CSV and JSON ────────────────────────────────────────────────── DATA FRESHNESS — KNOW IF A RECORD IS CURRENT ────────────────────────────────────────────────── Every result shows a color-coded freshness badge based on the NPPES "last updated" date: 🟢 FRESH — Updated within the last 6 months. Record is current. 🟡 AGING — Updated 6 months to 5 years ago. Consider re-verifying. 🔴 STALE — Not updated in over 5 years. Re-credentialing verification recommended. These thresholds align with standard healthcare re-credentialing cycles. You'll never wonder if you're looking at current data again. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── RECENT LOOKUPS HISTORY ────────────────────────────────────────────────── The last 25 NPI lookups you run are automatically saved to a History tab. Each entry shows: • Provider name and NPI number • Type (Individual or Organization) • How long ago you looked it up Click any history entry to re-run a live NPPES lookup with one click. The history is stored locally on your device only — it never leaves your computer. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── EXPORT TO CSV AND JSON ────────────────────────────────────────────────── Every provider card has one-click export: CSV — A flat-file export with 37 columns covering all NPPES fields. Opens directly in Excel. Ready for credentialing systems and data pipelines. Individual and Organization records use the same column structure — fields that don't apply are left blank, so you can combine records without reformatting. JSON — A structured export with all provider fields plus computed freshness data. Designed for developers building integrations with downstream systems. Files are named automatically: npi_[NPI]_[YYYY-MM-DD].csv / .json ────────────────────────────────────────────────── WHO USES NPIVERIFY ────────────────────────────────────────────────── ✓ Credentialing specialists verifying providers before onboarding ✓ Provider network managers checking current practice locations ✓ Revenue cycle teams confirming NPI status before claim submission ✓ Healthcare IT developers building provider data integrations ✓ Medical staff offices tracking provider specialty and license data ✓ Compliance teams auditing provider records for re-credentialing ────────────────────────────────────────────────── PRIVACY AND DATA ────────────────────────────────────────────────── NPIVerify takes a minimal-data approach: • The only external service it contacts is npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov — the official CMS NPPES API. This is the same database behind the NPPES NPI Registry website. • Your lookup history is stored on your device using Chrome's local storage. It never leaves your computer and is never transmitted anywhere. • NPIVerify does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. • No analytics. No telemetry. No third-party scripts. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── TECHNICAL NOTES ────────────────────────────────────────────────── • Uses NPPES API v2.1 (the current CMS version) • Lookup timeout: 10 seconds with clear error messaging if the API is unreachable • NPI validation: checks both format (exactly 10 digits) and Luhn check digit before making any API call — invalid NPIs are caught instantly without a network round-trip • Works on any web page — intranet portals, credentialing platforms, EHR web interfaces, email, PDFs in the browser, and anywhere else NPIs appear as text
