White Whale

Block distracting sites until you type a passage or your own goal.

White Whale puts a small, thoughtful pause between you and the sites that eat your day. Pick the sites that pull you in. When you open one, White Whale steps in. To get through, you do a short exercise: type a passage from a classic book, answer a few multiple-choice questions, or write down a goal. Finish the task and you earn a set number of minutes on the site. When the time is up, the gate comes back. It works because it's quick, not because it's hard. Most people finish in under a minute, and many find they no longer need the site. WHAT YOU GET (FREE) • Block any sites you choose or get suggestions of the sites you visit most • Earn time by typing or answering questions from classic books (starting with Moby-Dick!) • Earn time by answering Vocabulary Builder words • A daily time limit you set yourself • No log-in, no sign-up, no ads PREMIUM ($3.99/year) • All of Moby-Dick and the full Vocabulary Builder, with your place synced across browsers • Daily goals • Pledge: commit to your limits for a set period, so a weak moment can't undo them • Circles: quietly keep pace with a few friends. Members see each other's numbers (days used, sites blocked, streak) — never which sites, and never what you typed. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your blocked sites, history and settings stay on your device. Your browsing history is only read locally to suggest sites, and is never uploaded. Anonymous usage counts help us improve the product and carry no name, email or site names. Full policy linked below. White Whale needs access to all websites so it can pause any site you choose to block. It does not read or change page content.
