Highlight anything you read. Keep it forever. No account required. Notebook Highlighter lets you mark up the web the way you would mark up a book, and keeps everything you save on your own computer. HIGHLIGHTING Select text on any page, pick a colour, and it is saved. When you come back to that page — tomorrow, or next year — your highlights are already there, exactly where you left them. It works the same way inside PDFs, including files stored on your own hard drive, using the viewer built into the extension. Add a note to any highlight, tag it, and search across everything you have ever marked from a single box. READING AND SAVING Reader mode strips the ads and clutter out of an article and saves a clean copy you can read again offline. You can bookmark pages, bring in the bookmarks you already keep in your browser, and set a reminder to come back to something later. Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+H highlights the selection, Alt+S opens the sidebar, Alt+B saves a bookmark. GETTING YOUR NOTES BACK OUT Export your highlights as a Markdown or PDF file, or send them straight to the notes app you already use. The PDF export embeds the fonts needed for non-Latin writing systems, so highlights in languages other than English come out as readable, selectable text rather than empty boxes — and in the right character order, so the text can still be copied and searched. YOUR READING STAYS YOURS There is no sign-up, no account, and no server of ours that ever sees what you read. Everything is stored locally in your browser. We run no analytics and no tracking code. The AI summary and chat features are optional and use your own API key. Add a key and the extension talks directly to the provider you chose. Add nothing, and no AI request is ever made. To move highlights between machines, point the extension at a sync endpoint you control, or export a backup file and carry it across yourself. WHY IT ASKS FOR ACCESS TO ALL SITES A highlighter cannot know in advance which page you will want to highlight, and highlights you saved earlier need to reappear on their own when you return to a page.
