Overview

Side-panel notes, reminders, and one-click sync for Google Calendar and Google Tasks.

Note Nut is a notes panel that stays open beside the page you are on. You can write, set a reminder, and glance at your calendar without leaving the site. Click the toolbar icon, or press Alt+Shift+N, and the panel opens on the side. Your notes stay on this computer. They save on their own while you type. Everyday notes The bottom of the panel has three places: Notes, Reminders, and Settings. On Notes, search for a note or press + to start a blank one. Notes can sit in a list or a grid. Right-click a note to select several, delete them, or change how the list looks. Shift-click selects a range. Ctrl-click picks one note at a time. Each note can have its own color. Double-click the bar at the top of a note to give it a bold title. That title is what you see on the home card. If you would rather use the first line as the name, turn that on in Settings. You can keep notes in sections, such as Inbox, Work, or Personal. Highlight text on a web page, then right-click and choose Add selection to Note Nut, or press Alt+Shift+S. The text is added to the note you have open. Writing A note can be plain text or a rich note. In a rich note you can use bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough. You can change the font and size of the words you have selected, and mix normal lines with checkboxes. Press Enter on a checkbox line to add another. Press Enter on an empty checkbox to go back to a normal line. Paste a web address and it becomes a link. Ctrl+click or middle-click opens it in a new tab. Paste a YouTube link and the video appears under it. Press play and use YouTube’s own controls. Hover the preview for maximize, open in a new tab, or remove the preview. Link previews can be turned off under Settings, then Editor. The toolbar can be rearranged. In Settings, then Editor, then Toolbar, check a button to show it and drag the row to move it. Bold, italic, and the other formatting buttons only appear in a rich note. Other tools live in the note menu: word and character count, find, copy, download, print, read aloud, and a small floating window. You can hide the ones you do not use. Useful shortcuts while writing: Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U format the selection Ctrl+K adds a link Ctrl+Shift+< and Ctrl+Shift+> change the size Ctrl+Shift+F changes the font Ctrl+F finds Ctrl+Z undoes Escape leaves the note and goes home Reminders A reminder can be once, every day, every week, or every few days. Today sets the date and the exact current time. When it is time, a box appears on the page you are looking at. Switch tabs and it follows you. The backdrop does not dismiss it. Press X to close this one. A daily or weekly reminder still comes back next time. Mark it Done in Reminders to stop the series. Chrome also shows a notification, which matters on pages where the box cannot appear. Done reminders can move to an archive. Open the archive from Reminders or from Settings, then restore or delete them. Calendars You can connect Google Calendar and Google Tasks, or Outlook and Microsoft To Do. You can also import an .ics file from Apple Calendar or another app. Note Nut only reads Google calendars and tasks. It does not change them. Turning off Sync Google hides those items and leaves you signed in. Each source has its own switch, Move tasks to Reminders. Only upcoming items that have a real clock time are copied. A task that is only a date stays on the calendar. If you delete a copied reminder, it is not created again. Sync on your home network Local Network Sync is for two or more computers on the same Wi-Fi. It is marked experimental. Turn it on in Settings. One computer shows a short code. The other joins with that code. You confirm the pair on the computer you are holding. Paired computers are labeled Client 1, Client 2, and so on, so you can tell them apart when you unpair one. You can sync every note, or turn that off and right-click the notes you want. A small mark on the card shows a note that is shared. A note can be read-only on the other computers, so they can see it but not change it. Sync covers notes. Reminders and settings stay on each computer. Both computers need the internet for a moment to find each other, then the notes go directly between them on your network. Your copy of the data Notes, reminders, and settings are stored in this browser. A backup file includes those. Sign-in tokens stay on the device and are not put in the backup. Ask before deleting warns you before a note with writing, a section, or an archived reminder is removed. You can also choose whether the panel reopens the last note or returns home. Reset and erase still always ask first.
