Tundra — Block sites behind friction
3 ratings
)Overview
Block any site behind friction strong enough to actually work. Private, local, no account.
Tundra blocks the sites that eat your day — and makes getting back to them cost something. Most site blockers have a disable button. You click it, you're back on the feed, and nothing has changed. Tundra is built on the opposite idea: you can always take a break, but you have to earn it, and it gets harder every time. HOW IT WORKS Add the sites you lose time to — youtube.com/shorts, reddit.com, x.com, or anything else. Turn blocking on. Those sites stop opening. When you want back in, Tundra asks whether you really want this. Then you wait out a countdown. And here is the part that makes it work: if you close the popup or click away, the timer starts over. You have to sit and watch it. That pause is long enough for the impulse to pass, which is the whole point. Every break makes the next wait longer — up to four times as long — until you go three hours without one. FIVE DIFFICULTIES From "I'm too young to die" (a 5–15 second wait, no cooldown) up to "Ultra-Nightmare" (90–120 seconds and a 30-minute cooldown between breaks). Start gentle. Move up when you're ready. Or set every value yourself. SCHEDULES Set blocking to switch itself on and off — weekday mornings, evenings, overnight. Lock a scheduled session and it can't be ended until the window closes. Breaks still work inside it. QUICK CHECKS Sometimes you genuinely need to look at one thing. Give yourself up to five 30-second checks a day, with no wait. They don't count as breaks, so they never make the next wait longer. BLOCK A SECTION, NOT JUST A SITE Block youtube.com/shorts and the rest of YouTube keeps working. Block youtube.com and the whole thing goes. EVERY EXIT COSTS SOMETHING Taking a break costs a wait. Opening settings mid-session costs one too, so loosening your own rules is never a free move. Ending a session costs a wait as well. Set a daily break budget, and once it's spent, each extra break costs five minutes. MAKE IT YOURS Ten colour themes, or pick your own colours. PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION No account. No servers. No analytics. Your blocked sites and settings never leave your browser, because there is nowhere for them to go. Free, and free of everything else — no ads, no subscription, no upsell. Tundra is also on iPhone. tundraapp.com
