NEXUS Bridge
Overview
A secure workflow automation extension that bridges web-based data directly into the NEXUS CRM, boosting data productivity.
WHAT'S NEW # v2.12.2 - No more "signed out" notices while you are signed in, and the daily sync runs when somebody is there This release answers the office's report from October 10: a notice at the bottom of the NEXUS screen saying ProConnect is signed out and needs a sign-in, on a PC where ProConnect was open and signed in, and where the Bridge's own connection test showed everything green. **NEXUS can open a return for you.** Every row of ProConnect's tax returns list carries the return's own id, and the Bridge now reads it off the list (no return is opened) whenever that list is on screen, and once an hour. A client's page in NEXUS then shows "Open 2025 return", "Dependents" and "W-2s"; the Bridge lands on that screen inside the return, since ProConnect's own address never says which screen is open. **E-file status every hour.** The office asked for e-file status "quicker than once a day." While ProConnect is open and signed in on a PC that runs the sync, the Bridge reads the tax returns list and the e-file dashboard once an hour (never between 10 PM and 7 AM). NEXUS shows accepted, rejected or transmitted on the client card and in a new e-file report, the preparer on the return gets a task when it is accepted or rejected, and a rejection buzzes their phone. Nothing in ProConnect is changed. **Why a return was rejected.** When a return is rejected, the reject code and the IRS explanation come across with it when ProConnect shows them. To read them the Bridge may open that return's rejection details on the e-file dashboard and close them again; it never changes anything there. In NEXUS the "Rejected e-file" card then arrives filled in with the code, the explanation, and a suggested reason, which the preparer can still change. **The sync window says what it is, and a PC can opt out.** The hidden sync window used to look like any other ProConnect tab, so people closed it. If it is ever visible now, its title starts "NEXUS sync - " and an amber bar across the top reads: "NEXUS Sync Window. Do Not Close; It will close by itself. If an alert asks you to sign in to ProConnect sign in here once after every time Proconnect logs you out". Close it mid-run anyway and the Bridge's popup says when it was closed and when it tries again. Settings has a new switch, "This computer runs the daily sync", on by default; turn it off on a PC that should never open the window on its own. The popup's "Sync this client" still works there, because a person pressed it. **ProConnect's own merge tool, with the names labeled.** When Merge & Fix in NEXUS finds a pair that is two separate ProConnect entries, it now sends you to ProConnect's "Merge duplicate clients" tool with the two names labeled: which one NEXUS would keep as the main record and which one to merge into it. On that ProConnect page the Bridge hangs the same two labels after the names. It never presses anything there; the merge stays yours. **The "signed out of ProConnect" notice no longer shows while you are signed in.** The Bridge has two views of ProConnect: your own tab, and the hidden window it uses to sync in the background. Both reported whether they were signed in, once a minute each, into the same answer. After a night in which ProConnect had signed the hidden window out, that window kept saying "signed out" while your tab kept saying "signed in," and NEXUS showed whichever had spoken last. Your own tab is now the one that counts. The hidden window reports only on itself, and the Bridge tells the two apart by the window itself, not by what the page claims to be. **Signing in to ProConnect now lifts a waiting sync by itself.** When the hidden window was signed out during the overnight run before it had reached any client, it had no page to go back to, so it sat on the sign-in screen for good. Signing in beside it changed nothing, the sync stayed "waiting for a ProConnect sign-in," and NEXUS kept showing that notice until Chrome was restarted. Now, the moment a signed-in ProConnect page is seen on the PC, the Bridge sends the hidden window back to its page and the sync carries on within the minute. If Chrome had been restarted in between and that overnight run was lost, it starts over at that same moment. **An overnight sync that finds ProConnect signed out waits quietly for the morning.** Between 10 PM and 7 AM n # v2.12.1 - Links open the new NEXUS address, and a stuck background sync says what it needs once instead of over and over This release answers the office's reports from October 5: the "Open in NEXUS" links opening the old address, notification after notification piling up in the Windows sidebar, and the hidden sync window not appearing when a client is opened. **Every link to NEXUS now opens the practice's own address.** The "Open in NEXUS" button on ProConnect pages, the link inside a correction notice, and the NEXUS logo in the Bridge popup all open nexus.turneroundsolutions.com. The old address still works, so nothing breaks if you have it bookmarked, but a link there made you sign in a second time on a second copy of the site. **A sync waiting for a ProConnect sign-in now tells you once.** When ProConnect signs the hidden sync window out (it does this on its own after a stretch of inactivity, so overnight is typical), the Bridge pauses and sends one desktop notification that says what to do: sign in to ProConnect and the sync continues on its own. It used to send a fresh one roughly every twenty seconds for as long as it waited, because its check for "signed back in" accepted a page that had not finished loading. A single signed-out night produced hundreds of notifications, which is why they were being ignored. The same rule now covers every notice that only a person can clear: one per pause, and never a repeat inside half an hour. **A client the Bridge could not read is no longer a notification per client.** If the hidden window cannot read the pages it is sent to, every client you open fails the same way. You now get one notification an hour at most, with the count, and the fix: open ProConnect and make sure you are signed in. **A scheduled sync that cannot start now says so.** A daily or weekly run that finds an earlier sync still waiting (for a ProConnect sign-in, for NEXUS, for the connection) used to skip silently. It now sends one notice naming what it is waiting for and what to do. A scheduled run that starts while the Bridge has no NEXUS pass says that too: open NEXUS once and sign in, and the run carries on from where it held. **The popup's "Sync this client" button no longer jams the Bridge.** Since 2.12.0, pressing it queued the request behind the very run it had just set up, which had no window and never would. From that moment every client you opened was "waiting in line" behind nothing, and no hidden window appeared again until Chrome was restarted. That is fixed, and as a belt the Bridge now checks whether a sync it believes is running actually has a window; if not, it clears the jam within a minute and carries on. **Timers survive a Chrome restart.** The daily and weekly timers were rebuilt from scratch every time Chrome started. On a PC that was off, asleep or had Chrome closed at the scheduled time, that threw away the run Chrome was about to make up and replaced it with one for the next night, so the missed night was never made up. A timer Chrome still holds is now left alone. **Test the connection now reports the schedule on this PC.** Settings, Test the connection adds lines for the daily sync and the weekly full sync: on or off on this PC, and if on, whether Chrome actually holds a timer for it and when it next runs. It also shows when the last bulk run on this PC started and how it ended. Timers are per PC, so a PC where "the daily sync never runs" can now show you which line is the reason. Chrome must be open on the PC for a timer to fire. No new permissions. --- # v2.12.0 - Clients you look at sync on their own, nothing gets dropped when you move fast, and NEXUS can tell you when the Bridge needs a sign-in This release answers the office's reports from October 1. **Opening a client in ProConnect now refreshes them in NEXUS.** Look at a client's profile or their return for a few seconds and the Bridge refreshes that client in the background. Editing and moving on still syncs, as it did before. Opening a client in NEXUS asks the Bridge for the same refresh, and that request now keeps working after the Bridge updates itself (it used to go quiet until the NEXUS tab was reloaded). **A new client shows up in NEXUS as soon as you see them in the client list.** The list itself is read whenever it is on screen, so a client somebody just added lands in NEXUS by name, with their email and phone, before anyone opens them. The per-client sync fills in the rest later. This also covers edits made through the small dialog on the client list, which the Bridge could not watch before. **Working at full speed no longer loses clients.** Requests that arrived while the Bridge was busy used to be refused, and a reload of the ProConnect tab threw the retry list away. The Bridge now keeps a line of clients to sync, outside the page, and works through them one at a time. A bulk run is never interrupted; the line waits for it. **NEXUS can now show you when the Bridge is stuck.** The Bridge answers NEXUS with its state: whether it is connected to NEXUS and as whom, whether it is signed in to ProConnect, and whether a sync is waiting. NEXUS can use that to show a notice such as "The Bridge is signed out of ProConnect" while you are in NEXUS, which is where one preparer was when the hidden sync window had been signed out and nobody knew. The Bridge cannot sign in to ProConnect for you. It never holds your Intuit password and never will; the notice tells you to sign in and the sync picks up on its own. **The connection test says which half is wrong.** Settings, Test the connection now reports three lines: the pass NEXUS gave the Bridge (for whom, and until when), whether the NEXUS server accepted it, and whether ProConnect is signed in. A user who can never pass the test will now see exactly which line is red, and what to do about it. **A page that never finished loading can no longer create an empty client.** One NEXUS record had the word "undefined" as its id, with no name and no details, because a ProConnect page was read before it had loaded. The Bridge now refuses any client id that is not a number, refuses to read a return screen that has not drawn, waits for the client form's boxes to fill before reading them, and will not save a client it could not read a name for. Each refusal is said out loud in the sync window instead of writing a blank. **Scheduled syncs that sometimes failed to start now start.** The Bridge refused to run a scheduled sync when it still remembered a sync window that had already closed. It now checks whether the window really exists, and rebuilds a missing schedule from Settings whenever it wakes up. **The wording was made consistent.** The popup, Settings and the notifications now describe the same two things the same way: "connected to NEXUS" and "signed in to ProConnect". The "What's New" text in the popup is now the same list the Settings page shows (the popup had been describing a release from months ago under every new version number). The "Send an alert if a sync hits errors" switch was removed because nothing was ever connected to it. No new permissions. --- # v2.11.2 - A return with no readable year is skipped, and the skip is said out loud Nothing changes in how you use the Bridge. This release fixes one quiet mistake in what it copied. When ProConnect was slow to draw a return, the Bridge sometimes read the loading placeholder instead of the tax year and filed a return under a year that does not exist, such as "EEEEEEE". Those fake years then showed up in NEXUS as if they were real filings. The Bridge now waits for a real four-digit year and, if it never gets one, skips that return and tells you so in the sync window with a count, instead of guessing. This pairs with a server update that refuses any fake year the Bridge might still send, so the two fixes back each other up. The 503 fake years already in NEXUS are being cleaned up separately. This version is identical to v2.11.1 in every other way. No new permissions. --- # v2.11.1 - Ready for the practice's own web address Nothing changes in how you use the Bridge. This release teaches it the practice's own address, nexus.turneroundsolutions.com, which NEXUS is moving to so that the upload links we text clients stop being blocked as suspected spam by their phone carriers. Why it needed its own release: the Bridge only accepts a sign-in from addresses it has been told about, and NEXUS treats a refusal as "the Bridge is not installed". Without this version, the day NEXUS moves to the new address the ProConnect sync would simply stop, with no error shown anywhere. This version is identical to v2.11.0 in every other way. --- # v2.11.0 — Edits made inside a tax return now sync back, and the sync window stays out of the way **Editing a client inside their tax return now syncs back to NEXUS.** Since v2.9.0, editing a client and moving on was supposed to push that client to NEXUS on its own — but the watcher only covered the client's profile page, and most real edits happen inside the return itself, on the Client Information screen. Those edits were never noticed, so nothing synced. The watcher now covers both places. One deliberate exception: the small edit dialog you can open from a row on the client list is still not watched (there is no reliable way to tell which client it holds); an edit made there is picked up by the next bulk or catch-up run instead. **The hidden sync window now stays hidden.** The window that does the syncing has always asked to open minimized, but Chrome sometimes ignores that request and leaves a small browser window sitting on top of your work — easy to close by accident, which kills the sync. The bridge now asks a second time, immediately, which is the reliable way to keep it minimized. You will still see its button on the taskbar while a sync runs; leave it alone and it closes itself when the sync finishes. --- EXTENSION DESCRIPTION NEXUS Bridge connects your web workspaces directly to your NEXUS CRM, safely moving client information over for you so you don't have to copy and paste.
