Overview

Find, triage and cite related literature while you read: papers ranked by semantic similarity and grouped by subtopic.

NextPaper shows you the most relevant related literature while you read a paper, ranked by semantic similarity and grouped by subtopic, with everything you need to triage, save and cite it. Open an article page and click the icon. NextPaper reads the paper's identifier from the page metadata and returns the 18 most related papers in a few seconds. You can also type a topic instead. WHAT YOU GET • Related papers ranked by how close their content is to the one you are reading • "Start here": a classic, the most relevant review and the most recent work • Subtopic groups, shown only when they can be named honestly • A timeline that shows which lines of work are classic and which are recent • Study design and sample size on each card, only when they can be read unambiguously from the abstract (a hint, not a fact) • Short summary, abstract, citation counts and links to free PDFs • Explore any result to follow the trail, with an instant Back • A local library with reading status, notes, collections, backup and import • Ready-to-paste citations in the most common academic styles, completed with Crossref data • Daily alerts for new papers related to the ones you saved PRIVATE AND FREE Everything runs in your browser: no server, no account, no analytics, no AI calls, no cost. Your library stays on your device. Data comes from Semantic Scholar, Crossref and Unpaywall; requests go straight from your browser to them. SETUP NextPaper works best with your own free Semantic Scholar API key. A first-run screen explains how to request one (they e-mail it to you). It is optional, but without it analyses are slower. The key is stored only in your browser. Available in English and Spanish. Open source (MIT): github.com/zamora16/NextPaper
