NEWGOD Convert
Overview
Convert any file into any file on your own machine. Nothing uploads. Draw your own pixel loading animation.
NEWGOD Convert turns a file into another file entirely inside your own browser. Nothing is uploaded. There is no account, no server and no cloud storage. The extension declares zero permissions and makes zero network requests, so every byte of your file stays on your machine from the moment you drop it in until you download the result. WHAT IT DOES Drop a file into the panel. The extension reads the header to work out what it really is, then shows you what it can become. Pick one and the work happens in the tab you already have open, with no upload bar, no queue and no waiting for a server. Conversions available today: - Any file becomes a PNG that carries every byte, and that PNG turns back into the original file with its original name - PNG, JPG, WebP and BMP in every direction - JSON to pretty, to minified, or to CSV - CSV to JSON - Any text to Base64 or to hexadecimal HOW THE CARRIER WORKS A file is a list of bytes, and a byte is a number from 0 to 255. A colour channel is also a number from 0 to 255, so one pixel holds exactly three bytes. The first pixels hold a small header with the original filename and size, which is why restoring gives back the right name and the exact original length. Nothing is compressed and nothing is guessed, so the round trip is identical byte for byte. A 300,000 byte file becomes a 317 by 316 pixel image and comes back the same. DRAW YOUR OWN LOADING ANIMATION Waiting is boring, so the loading animation is yours to make. The ANIMATION tab is a pixel editor with a canvas from 8 by 8 up to 4080 by 4080, fifteen colours plus transparency, a pen, an eraser, a flood fill, a brush from 1 to 49 pixels, a grid overlay, an onion skin of the previous frame, unlimited frames and playback from 1 to 24 frames per second. Whatever you draw plays on every conversion afterwards. You can export a frame as a picture at up to 16384 by 16384, or skip drawing and load your own animation instead. FORMAT DETECTION File extensions can be wrong. The extension reads the signature bytes in the file header first, falls back to looking at the content, and only uses the extension as a last resort. The card tells you which method answered, so you always know whether it is certain or guessing. It recognises files from every major family, including images, camera raw, vector art, 3D models, CAD drawings, documents, presentations, spreadsheets, ebooks, video, audio, fonts, archives, disk images, configuration data, source code, subtitles, mail, maps, scientific data, certificates and installer packages. NO SIZE CAP FROM US Files are read one megabyte at a time, so a large file never has to sit in memory whole. We impose no limit because we pay for no bandwidth and no CPU. Your own machine is the only ceiling. PRIVACY The manifest declares no permissions, no host permissions and no content scripts. There is no analytics and no telemetry. There is no eval, no new Function, no fetch, no XMLHttpRequest and no external address anywhere in the source. Your animation and settings live in your own browser storage and never leave the machine. Downloads use a blob URL and a link, so even the downloads permission is unnecessary.
