NESA Online Sample Exam Marking Tool
Overview
Marks NESA Schools Online sample exam responses and builds printable marking reports. All marking runs in your browser.
Turn a NESA Schools Online sample exam response page into a marking report, without retyping anything. NESA Marking Report is a tool for NSW Department of Education teachers marking student attempts at NESA sample examination papers. Open a student's response page in NESA Schools Online, click the extension, and it builds a single report that puts the student's answer, the official marking guideline and the mark side by side. Objective response questions are marked for you against the official answer key. Everything requiring judgement is left to you, with the marking criteria on screen and mark boxes ready to click. WHAT IT DOES • Reads the page you already have open. No uploading, no exporting, no copying student numbers between systems. • Marks objective responses automatically — multiple choice, multiple answer, radio button, pulldown and sort questions — against the official answer key. • Shows the official marking guideline beside each response, including sample answers and marking criteria, so you are not switching between documents. • Runs student code in Python and SQL locally, so you can see what a submission actually does before awarding marks. Pseudocode is shown as text and never executed. • Renders student drawings submitted through the drawing tool. • Records your marks as you go, with a running total. • Produces a printable report you can save as a PDF for records, moderation or feedback. • Summarises performance by question type, topic and syllabus outcome, against the official mapping grid. COURSES Software Engineering is supported now. Enterprise Computing and English Extension are being added; because answer keys are delivered from the server, new courses appear without you needing to update the extension. YOUR STUDENTS' WORK STAYS ON YOUR COMPUTER Marking happens entirely in your browser. Student names, student numbers, answers, code and drawings are not uploaded, not sent to a server, and not shared with anyone. The only thing that leaves your browser is your sign-in, which confirms you are a Department of Education staff member — and a problem report, if you choose to send one. Problem reports contain nothing from the page unless you explicitly opt in for that one report, and if you do, the student's name, number and session details are removed first and shown to you before anything is sent. Full detail is in the privacy policy. WHAT YOU NEED • A NSW Department of Education Google account (@education.nsw.gov.au). Access is limited to approved staff. • Access to NESA Schools Online, with a student response page open. • Google Chrome 103 or later. NOT AFFILIATED WITH NESA This is an independent tool built by Ben Jones at Tempe High School. It is not produced, endorsed or supported by the NSW Education Standards Authority. It reads only pages you are already authorised to view, and it does not change any student record or submit anything to NESA.
