PromptTeX
Overview
Inline LaTeX editing, formula shortcuts, and math tools for AI chats.
Type math in ChatGPT the way it looks on paper. PromptTeX adds a visual equation editor inside the message box, so fractions, integrals, roots and matrices show up as real notation while you write your prompt. There is no extra panel and no separate window. HOW IT WORKS - Type $$, or type /math and press Enter. An editable equation box opens inside your message. - Type or paste LaTeX between dollar signs, such as $\frac{x^2}{2}$, and it becomes a formula you can click and edit. - Keep writing normal text around it. Your message still sends as standard LaTeX, which ChatGPT reads correctly. FEATURES - Visual editing: press / for a fraction, ^ for a power, or type commands such as \sqrt. - Command search: right-click a formula, or press Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Space, to find symbols and templates by name, such as "fraction" or "square root". Covers calculus, Greek letters, sets, logic, matrices and piecewise functions. - Saved formulas: store expressions you reuse, like the quadratic formula, under your own shortcut with fill-in blanks. - Source view: switch between rendered notation and the raw code with Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+L. - Chemistry: write reactions with \ce{...}. - Works in the main message box and when you edit a message you already sent. - Renders what you have sent as real notation too. You can turn this off from the extension's icon. - Copy from answers: hover over an expression in a response and click to copy its LaTeX. - One undo history for text and equations, plus light and dark themes. - A short guided tour the first time you use it, which you can replay at any time. PRIVACY - Runs only on chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com. - No account, no ads and no analytics. - Does not send your messages anywhere. All code and fonts are bundled with the extension. - Saves only your shortcuts, recent commands and settings, locally in your browser. It never stores message drafts. WHO IT IS FOR Students in calculus, physics, chemistry, statistics, linear algebra and engineering, along with tutors, teaching assistants and anyone who is tired of typing equations as plain text. PromptTeX is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. It is built on MathLive, an open-source math editor.
