Overview

Copy the page title and URL in your own format, such as a Markdown link. Rules can edit them first.

Smart URL Copy copies the title and URL of the current page to your clipboard, in the format you choose. Click the toolbar icon, then paste. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open any web page. 2. Click the Smart URL Copy icon in the toolbar. 3. Paste the result where you need it. The default output is a Markdown link: [Page title](https://example.com/page) The clipboard receives plain text and HTML with the same content. Editors paste the plain text. Rich text apps, such as word processors and email composers, paste a clickable link. TEMPLATES A template defines the output. Use two placeholders: - {{ title }} is the page title. - {{ url }} is the page address. Built-in examples: - Markdown: [{{ title }}]({{ url }}) - HTML: <a href="{{ url }}">{{ title }}</a> Write your own template for any text format, such as a plain "title - url" line for notes. Only one template is active at a time. Choose it on the options page. RULES Rules change the title or URL before the template fills in the placeholders. Rules run in list order. Each rule has: - A target: the title or the URL. - An action. - An on or off switch. - An optional page URL pattern (regex). The rule then runs only on matching pages. Actions: - Trim: remove spaces at the start and end of the title. - Regex replace: replace text that matches a regular expression. Use {{ 1 }} in the replacement to insert the first capture group. - Remove query parameter: remove a URL parameter by name. Turn on "Name is a regex" to match a group of names, such as utm_.* for all UTM tracking parameters. Examples: - Trim spaces in the title. - Remove a site name suffix, such as " - Example", from the title. - Remove utm_source from the URL. - Remove all utm_ parameters from the URL. - Turn a blog post URL into the site root. If a URL rule produces an invalid URL, the previous value is kept and a warning is shown. STATUS ICON - Green check: the copy worked. The icon returns to the default after 1 second. - Red icon: the copy failed. Hover over the icon within 1.5 seconds to read the reason. IMPORT AND EXPORT Open the options page to save all rules and templates to a JSON file. Restore them from a JSON file later, or move them to another browser profile. An invalid file is rejected and changes nothing. RESTRICTED PAGES Some pages do not allow extension scripts, such as chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, and some PDF viewers. On these pages the extension copies through a hidden offscreen document. BROWSERS Chrome 116 or newer, and Brave.
