Overview

Track your beliefs and hold yourself accountable.

MyTruth helps you sift through the sea of online information that you may already face in the "post-truth" age. It's a simple and interactive extension which will help you establish your own sense of truth in media and hold yourself more accountable for your beliefs. We come across lots of claims that are made by people writing tweets, facebook posts, or news articles online. Sometimes we agree with their claims, sometimes we disagree, and other times we aren't so sure what the truth is. MyTruth lets you "tag" such claims and mark them accordingly by highlighting and pressing Alt+Shift+S (Option+Shift+S on Mac, alternatively click the icon in the extensions bar). After a claim is tagged, it's saved to your collection of beliefs. MyTruth nicely organizes your beliefs so you can clearly see what you thought, when you thought it, where you thought it, and how your opinions have changed over time. Or, if you just want to quickly save something and return to your favorite activity of consuming content online, you can do that too, and forget about your beliefs for the time being. After some time, MyTruth will prompt you to brush up on your old beliefs, which you'll likely be reviewing in light of new information. This keeps you actively engaged in organizing your "sense of truth" and helps you realize when you may have held an opinion which you might now consider to have been unjustified. The default timespan is 3 weeks and this can be configured to your preference in the settings. Ultimately, MyTruth will help you build the habit of consistently reviewing and upholding your principles, the benefits of which have been touted by businessmen such as Ray Dalio and Bill Gates, and philosophers such as Nathan Ballantyne and John Stuart Mill. The source code for MyTruth is also open-source and we welcome anyone who would like to contribute to the project! Visit https://github.com/nik-suri/MyTruth for more details.
