MVT Viewer
Overview
Chrome DevTools extension to inspect Mapbox Vector Tile (MVT) network responses and view them as readable JSON.
MVT Viewer is a high-performance, offline-capable Chrome DevTools Extension designed for GIS developers, mapping engineers, and web cartographers. It seamlessly intercepts Mapbox Vector Tile (MVT) responses and decodes binary Protocol Buffer (.pbf / .mvt) payloads into clean, readable, and interactive JSON or GeoJSON directly inside your DevTools panel. Key Features: π‘ Automatic Network Interception: Automatically listens to finished network requests and catches MVT/PBF tile responses from Mapbox, MapLibre, OpenLayers, MapTiler, and custom servers. π¦ Zero-Setup Offline Parser: Encapsulates a local decoding engine powered by pbf and @mapbox/vector-tile. Works 100% offline with zero external network requests. πΊοΈ WGS84 Lat/Lon Projection: Automatically parses Z/X/Y coordinates from URL segments and translates local tile geometries (0 to 4096) into standard WGS84 geographic coordinate coordinates (Longitude & Latitude) in GeoJSON mode. Falls back safely to local coordinates when bounds are unavailable. π Ultra-Fast Tree Viewer: Powered by an optimized rendering engine that easily handles massive datasets without UI stuttering. Collapse, expand, or toggle entire nodes seamlessly. π Instant Text Filtering: Real-time DOM search highlights keys and values instantly, expanding parent tree sections automatically to reveal matches. πΎ Developer Controls: Copy raw JSON or GeoJSON formatted payloads with one click, or download tiles directly to your disk. π DevTools Theme-Aware: Seamlessly inherits Chrome's native theme (automatically switching between dark and light modes) for a fully integrated, premium feel. Why Install MVT Viewer? Debugging vector tiles usually requires external scripts or curl requests. With MVT Viewer, you inspect map tile layers, feature counts, attributes, and geometries instantly within your normal DevTools workflow. Perfect for diagnosing data pipeline issues, validating feature attributes, and debugging client-side rendering boundaries.
