Music Player Mode for YouTube
Overview
Turn YouTube into a music player: build playlists from any page, play them in a floating window, listen while you browse.
Turn any YouTube channel, playlist, or search results page into your own playlist — then listen to it in a floating music player while you work. This extension collects the publicly visible video list from the page you have open and saves it as an editable playlist. Playback runs in its own floating player window, not a browser tab: cover art, play and skip controls, a seek bar, volume, and a live audio visualizer. YouTube's video, header, sidebar and comments are hidden inside that window, so what you get is a music player — and the music keeps going after you close the side panel, close the YouTube tab you collected from, or browse to a completely different site. ★ WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE IT • True background playback — closing the panel or your tab does not stop the music • Build a playlist from an entire channel in one click, no manual queueing • A real music player interface, not a video page • No API key, no Google Cloud project, no OAuth, no daily quota • No sign-up, no account, no subscription • Runs 100% locally — nothing is ever uploaded ★ BUILD PLAYLISTS FROM ANYWHERE • Collect every video from a channel's Videos, Shorts, Live or Streams tab • Import an existing playlist page, a search results page, or your home feed • Use the "Add to playlist" button the extension adds next to Subscribe on any watch page • Add a single video by pasting its link • Keep growing a playlist: load it, visit another channel, and merge the new tracks in • Duplicates are skipped automatically ★ THE PLAYER • Floating player window — drag it, resize it, put it anywhere; it reopens where you left it • Live audio visualizer that moves with the music • Continuous auto-advance from track to track • Shuffle and repeat (repeat-all and repeat-one) • Seekable progress bar, cover art, volume • Stays open until you close it — it never hides or minimizes itself • Optional floating mini player, so you can skip tracks from any site • Drag tracks to reorder, or remove them individually • Mark playlists as favorites to pin them to the top • Light and dark themes ★ SUPPORTED PAGES • Channel Videos tabs • Channel Shorts tabs • Channel Live and Streams tabs • Playlists, including long ones • Search results pages • Home and recommendation feeds • Any single watch page, via the Add to playlist button ★ HOW TO USE 1. Open a channel, playlist, or search results page on YouTube. 2. Click the extension icon to open the side panel. 3. Go to the Add tab, choose "New playlist", and click "Detect & Add". (Or, on any single video, use the "Add to playlist" button next to Subscribe.) 4. Open the Playlists tab and press Play. 5. Close the panel and keep browsing — the music follows you. ★ PRIVACY This extension does not collect, transmit, or sell any data. There are no analytics, no trackers, no advertising, and no remote servers. Your playlists are stored locally in your own browser using chrome.storage.local, and you can delete them at any time. The extension runs on youtube.com by default; access to other sites is optional, requested only if you turn on the floating mini player, and used solely to draw those playback controls. ★ WHAT THIS EXTENSION DOES NOT DO • It does not download video, audio, or subtitle files. • It does not extract, save, or re-host any media stream. • It does not remove, block, or skip ads. • It does not access private, unlisted, or age-restricted content. • It does not bypass any paywall, login, or access restriction. • It does not automate accounts, views, likes, or comments. Playback is performed by YouTube's own player on youtube.com, exactly as it works when you open a video yourself. Ads play normally and are simply waited out. ★ GOOD TO KNOW The floating window IS the player. It never takes a tab slot, never steals focus after the first play, and never hides or closes itself — that is your call. Drag it by its header, resize it from any edge (down to 490x260), and it reopens where you left it. Closing it pauses the music; pressing play brings it back at the same spot. If YouTube ever needs a click inside that window — a consent prompt, an age check, a sign-in — press the eye button in the player's header to reveal the real page underneath. Videos that are private, deleted, region-blocked, or sign-in restricted cannot be played. Those stay in your playlist with a warning badge and are skipped automatically. ★ DISCLAIMER This is an independent, third-party tool.
