Music & Guitar Practice Looper: A-B Loop, Slow Down, Metronome
Overview
Loop any part of a song, slow it down, get a count-in and a metronome. Practise guitar, piano, drums, vocals and any instrument.
Practice any song right inside your browser. Music & Guitar Practice Looper adds a small practice panel to whatever is playing in your tab: a lesson video, a song, a backing track, or any page with an audio or video player. Loop the hard part, slow it down, get a count-in so you are ready when the music starts, and keep time with a metronome that finds the song's tempo by itself. It was built for guitar players who learn by playing along with recordings, and it works for anyone practising an instrument or singing along. THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES You press play, then you scramble to get your fingers in position, and the first bars of the song are already gone. Or you want to repeat one tricky phrase twenty times and keep dragging the progress bar back by hand. This extension takes care of both, and adds the tools you would otherwise need a separate practice app for. QUICK START 1. Open any song or lesson video and start it. The panel appears at the bottom right once a track of 20 seconds or longer is loaded. 2. While it plays, press Set next to A where the part starts, and Set next to B where it ends. It loops straight away. 3. Press Save loop to keep it. Come back tomorrow and it is still there. 4. Slow it down with the speed slider, switch on the metronome, and practise. FEATURES COUNT-IN BEFORE PLAY Press play on the site's own play button (or a keyboard media key) and the song waits while a big 3-2-1 countdown runs on screen, then starts. You choose how long the countdown lasts, from 1 to 15 seconds, so you have time to get ready. An optional click sounds on every number, with a higher beep when the music starts. Press Esc or the Cancel button to stop a countdown. Turn the count-in off any time with one switch. A-B LOOP Mark the start (A) and end (B) of any part of the song and it repeats for as long as you like. Press Set while the song plays, or type an exact time such as 1:05.2. Nudge either edge by a tenth of a second with the minus and plus buttons, and the song jumps there so you can hear the new edge. A fretboard-style strip shows the song with your loop as a gold bar and a white line for where you are now. Click or drag the strip to jump anywhere in the song. The Loop button turns the loop on and off, and Again restarts the loop from A. PAUSE BETWEEN REPEATS Need a moment to reset before each repeat? Choose a pause of 1 to 15 seconds. A short countdown runs, then the loop plays again. Leave it off for a seamless loop. SAVED LOOPS FOR EVERY SONG Save as many loops as you like for each song: intro, verse, chorus, solo. Name them, rename them, delete them. Every song keeps its own list and it is still there the next time you open the song, even after you close the browser. Click a saved loop to practise it, and click it again to stop looping. PLAY ALL LOOPS ONE BY ONE Save a few loops, press Play all, and the extension plays them one after another in song order, then stops. It is a quick way to skip the parts you cannot play yet or find boring and spend your time only on the good bits. Choose how many times each loop plays before moving on with Plays per loop. Click another loop in the middle of a run to carry on from there. SPEED CONTROL Slow a song down to 25% to learn a fast passage, or speed it up to 150%. The pitch stays the same, so the song still sounds right. The speed readout updates live as you change it, and a small reset button takes you back to 100% in one click. METRONOME THAT FINDS THE TEMPO FOR YOU Switch the metronome on and it listens to the song, works out the tempo, and clicks along in time. The tempo is saved for each song, so it is ready next time. Not happy with the result? You have full control: - Press minus or plus to nudge the tempo, or click the number and type any tempo from 30 to 300. - Tap along with the beat to set the tempo yourself. - If detection landed on double or half the speed the song really feels, fix it with the half and 2x buttons. - Press Reset to go back to the tempo found in the song. - Set the click volume to taste. It never changes the volume of the song. The clicks follow the speed slider, so at 75% speed they click at 75% of the tempo. They start on beat one wherever playback or your loop starts, and the first click of every group of four is higher, so you always know where the bar begins. Tempo detection needs the website to let the page hear its audio. If a protected player does not allow it, tapping or typing the tempo still works. POP-OUT WINDOW Press the pop-out button and the panel moves into its own small window that stays on top of your other tabs and apps. Keep it next to a chord chart, tab or sheet music while you play. (Needs Chrome 116 or newer on desktop. Keep the original tab open, because it keeps playing the song. Close the small window to put the panel back.) KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS Your hands are busy, so everything has a shortcut. They work with the Alt key and are ignored while you type in a text box. Alt+A Set A at the current position Alt+B Set B and start looping Alt+L Loop on or off Alt+S Save the loop, or start a new one Alt+R Restart the loop from A Alt+P Play all loops, or stop Alt+M Metronome on or off Alt+0 Reset speed to 100% Alt+C Count-in on or off Alt+, and Alt+. Slower or faster by 5% Esc Cancel a running count-in HELP BUBBLES Every feature has a small (i) button next to its name. Hover over it and a short, plain explanation appears. Buttons and sliders explain themselves when you hover over them too. You can learn the whole panel without reading a manual. TURN IT OFF ON ANY SITE Do not want the looper on a particular website? Press the x in the panel header and it switches off for that site: no panel, no count-in, no looping, and playback is left completely alone. The toolbar icon shows OFF on that site, and clicking the icon turns it back on. Your choice is remembered. Tip: pin the extension from the puzzle-piece menu so the icon stays visible. TIDY, MOVABLE PANEL Drag the panel by its title bar to put it wherever suits you, and collapse it to a thin bar when you do not need it. It remembers where you left it. It also follows the video into full screen. WORKS ON MOST WEBSITES It works with the audio or video player on the page, so there is nothing to upload or import. Short sounds (under 20 seconds) such as website alerts and previews are ignored, and on YouTube the count-in and looping stay out of the way during ads. GOOD FOR - Learning songs by ear, note by note - Drilling a difficult riff, chord change, run or solo - Following lessons on video - Playing along with backing tracks - Practising with a steady beat while slowing the song down - Preparing for a gig, an exam or a lesson PRIVACY Your practice stays on your computer. The extension does not collect, sell or share any data, has no accounts, and makes no network requests of its own. Your saved loops and settings are kept in Chrome's local extension storage on your device. WHY IT NEEDS ITS PERMISSIONS - Storage: to remember your saved loops, tempos and settings. - Access to websites: so the panel can appear next to the audio or video player on the page you are practising with. It only works with the player; it does not read the text, forms or passwords on the page. ABOUT THE DEVELOPER Made by Harshendra Rami.
