Overview

Is this product still climbing? Take a reading each visit and see which way it moved, measured from your own visits.

Every research tool gives you a number. None of them gives you the derivative. They all report a point estimate: this product sells about this much, this store does about that. The question a person actually has is different, and nobody answers it — is this still climbing, or am I late? MurmPulse answers it by watching, on your machine, over time. How it works Open a product page and click the icon. That records one reading: whatever the page publishes about itself — price, sold count, review total, rating. Come back in a few days and click again. From the third reading it will tell you which way the number is going, at what rate per day, and it will print the sample count and the window beside the figure every single time. Two readings are not a trend and it says so rather than drawing a line through them. Your own repeat visits are the sampling schedule. That is why this works without a server: a hosted tool would have to poll every product for every user to build the same history, which is expensive, which is why they sell you a point estimate instead. What it refuses to tell you Every MurmTools extension refuses at least one number that other tools invent. This one refuses the future. There is no forecast, no projection, no "on track for", and no dashed continuation of the line. A trend here is a record of what happened between readings you took. It is not a claim about what happens next, and the panel says so in as many words. It also will not show a percentage from a baseline of zero, because there isn't one, and it will not smooth a gap. If you did not look for three weeks, the chart shows three weeks of nothing, because that is what was measured. The first visit A velocity tool has no history on day one, and pretending otherwise is where this kind of product usually starts lying. So on the first reading it takes whatever the page already says about its own past — a sold count beside a listing date gives an average per day since it was listed — and labels it exactly that. An average since launch is not this week's rate, and the panel does not let the two be confused. Three permissions, no host access activeTab, scripting and storage. Nothing runs until you click the icon, and there are no host permissions at all — no access to any site until you ask, no background process, no other tab. The storage is the readings, and it is the whole product: without it there is nothing to compare against. It never leaves your machine. No account, no server, no analytics. History is kept at full resolution for a month, daily for a year, weekly after that, so it stays inside a budget rather than growing forever, and the panel tells you when older readings have been dropped.
