Thoughtline is an extension for Google Docs that makes the student writing process visible to teachers. Three process signals (green, yellow, red) replace unreliable AI detectors with process transparency. Built for K-12 and higher education. Our extension works with our Thoughtline platform for full classroom visibility. Thoughtline shows teachers how student writing developed over time inside Google Docs, with process signals instead of unreliable AI-detection. Beyond AI Detectors AI detectors are notoriously unreliable. A Stanford study found a 61% false positive rate for non-native English speakers. Instead of relying on a "black box" percentage that leads to false accusations, Thoughtline offers Illumination. The Three-Signal System 🟢 Green (Grade with Confidence): Strong writing process indicators. Multiple sessions, natural editing, and consistent voice development. 🟡 Yellow (Look Deeper): Mixed signals that warrant a conversation. Use Thoughtline’s data to ask specific questions rather than vague suspicions. 🔴 Red (Talk First): Process indicators suggest the student may need support. This is a signal to have a conversation before grading. How It Works Teachers install the Thoughtline Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store. Students write in Google Docs as they already do: whether from a Google Classroom assignment or a shared link. Nothing changes for students. Teachers open any student essay and see the process signal immediately. From the extension, open the classroom dashboard to see all students at a glance with their signals.
