Overview
Turn every new tab into a fast, local-first notepad. Write in Markdown or plain text, organized in folders. Works fully offline.
Motherboard replaces your new tab page with a notepad. Open a tab, start typing — no login, no setup, no loading spinner. Write in Markdown with formatting that appears as you type: headings, lists, checkboxes, code blocks, tables, and links between notes. Prefer plain text? .txt files work too. Organize everything in real folders, and open several files at once in tabs. Press Ctrl+Shift+P for the command palette — create files, search the web (Google, DuckDuckGo, Brave, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Grok), or run a quick calculation. Ctrl+P jumps to any file by name. Five themes, including Dark and Dracula. Every note is saved to this browser's storage on your own device. No account, no server, nothing uploaded — and it all works offline. Don't like it? Just remove the extension and everything goes back to normal — your old new tab page returns immediately, with nothing left behind. One note on installing: your browser will ask you to confirm that Motherboard can be your new tab page. That's a routine check it runs for any extension that changes that page — choose "Keep it" to carry on.
