Modulate: Tab Volume Mixer & Controller
1 rating
)Overview
Per-tab volume mixer. Mute, duck, or boost any tab up to 600%. Clean controls, hotkeys, private by design.
Take control of sound in your browser Modulate gives every tab its own volume control. Turn down a loud video, mute a distracting tab, or boost audio that’s too quiet up to 600%, all without changing your system volume. Everything is managed from one clean mixer, so you can quickly see which tabs are playing audio and adjust them individually. What you can do with Modulate 1. Control every tab individually Every tab playing audio gets its own volume slider. Modulate shows the tab’s title and favicon, making it easy to find exactly what you want to adjust. 2. Boost quiet tabs up to 600% Need more than 100%? Modulate starts with a maximum boost of 150%, and you can increase it in Settings to 200%, 300%, 400%, 500%, or 600%. You can also use Boost All to instantly bring every playing tab to 150%. 3. Mute and reset instantly Mute any tab with one click, or use Mute All when you need everything quiet. Reset All returns your browser audio to normal, while the menu on each tab lets you reset only that tab back to 100%, unmuted, with its audio adjustments cleared. 4. Shape your audio Optional Bass Boost and Voice Boost controls let you adjust audio from -12 dB to +12 dB. Keep them hidden if you just want simple volume controls, or enable them in Settings when you need more control. 5. Control audio without opening Modulate Keyboard shortcuts let you mute or adjust the active tab directly: Mute / Unmute: Alt + Shift + M Mac: Option + Shift + M Volume Up: Alt + Shift + Up Volume Down: Alt + Shift + Down You can remap these shortcuts anytime from Chrome’s extension shortcut settings. Set it once and keep browsing Each tab remembers its own volume and mute state for as long as the tab stays open. Set your music lower, boost a quiet video, keep another tab muted, and continue browsing without constantly readjusting everything. Modulate works anywhere audio plays in your browser, including YouTube, Google Meet, Spotify Web Player, video sites, music platforms, and more. Private by design Modulate collects nothing. There are no accounts, analytics, tracking, or collection of your browsing, tab, or audio data. Your settings stay locally on your device. Nothing about what you watch, listen to, or browse is sent to Modulate. The only external requests made by the popup are for font files used to render the interface, loaded from Google Fonts, Fontshare, and jsDelivr. Why Modulate? Chrome’s built-in tab mute is all-or-nothing, while your system volume changes everything on your computer. Modulate gives you the control in between: individual volume for every tab, boosting beyond 100%, quick mute and reset controls, optional audio shaping, and one simple mixer for your entire browser. No setup. No account. No tracking. Every tab. Its own volume.
