Eterna is a calm, private notebook for Chrome. Keep notes, tasks, events with reminders and the people you want to stay in touch with in one place: in Chrome's side panel next to any page, and on your new tab page. No account and no sign-up. Everything you write stays in your browser on your device. Eterna replaces Chrome's new tab page with its Home view. After you install it, Chrome asks whether to keep this change. Choose "Keep it" to use Eterna. You can switch Home to the quieter Plain style at any time, and a button on Home opens Chrome's usual new tab page. WRITE IN THE SIDE PANEL • Click the Eterna icon or press Alt+Shift+N (Option+Shift+N on Mac) to open Eterna beside any page. • Type and press Enter to save. The open tab decides what you make: a note, a task, an event or a person. • Put a date in the first line, like "Dinner with Sam fri 7pm" or "call mom tomorrow", and a note becomes an event, or a task gets its due date. • Search everything as you type, and filter with #tags. • Write in a rich editor with markdown shortcuts, a "/" menu for headings, lists, checklists and code, links and images. Every change saves automatically. SAVE FROM ANY PAGE • Select text, right-click and choose "Save selection to Eterna". Save it as a new note that links back to the page, or add it to one of the notes you edited most recently. YOUR NEW TAB • A clock and a greeting with Seren, Eterna's little star. • Corner style (the default) keeps a panel in the corner with your scratchpad, what's coming up, people to follow up with and your recent entries. Full style lays everything out on the page. Plain style shows only the clock, quick-add and your recent entries. • A scratchpad that is always ready for a number, a link or a passing thought. • Coming up: events in the next 7 days and tasks due soon. • On this day: what you wrote a week ago, a month ago and in past years on this date. • A focus timer: name one thing, focus for 25 or 50 minutes, then take a short break. • Your own categories, made from tags. • A full-page editor with a sidebar, notes inside notes, emoji icons, pinned notes and an outline. • Backgrounds: dots, a daily landscape photo, your own photo or a plain color. Dark and light themes. TASKS, EVENTS AND REMINDERS • Tasks with a due date, an optional time and a reminder. Tick them off, with Undo. • Events with a date, an optional time and a reminder. • Reminders appear as notifications, even when no Eterna tab is open. Reminders only appear while Chrome is running; any missed while it was closed are shown the next time it starts. PEOPLE • Keep a name, how you know someone, notes, and an optional email address and phone number. • Choose how often you want to be in touch, and Eterna lists who is due for a follow-up. "Talked today" resets it in one click. KEEP IT TIDY AND SAFE • Tags, pins, Archive, and a Trash that keeps deleted items for 30 days. • Add images by pasting, dragging and dropping, or choosing files. Images are compressed and stored on your device, and hidden photo data such as location is removed. • Back up everything to a single .eterna file and restore it on any computer. A gentle reminder helps you back up every week. • Erase all data in one step from Settings. PRIVACY • Everything you write stays in your browser on your device. No account, no cloud sync, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. • Eterna never sends your notes, tasks, events, people or images anywhere. • The only network connection is optional and is used only when you choose the daily photo background: Eterna asks its photo service once a day which landscape to show, and your browser loads that photo from Unsplash. Like any web request, both can see your IP address. Nothing you write is sent. Turn off "Fresh photo every day" in Settings to use only the photos built into Eterna. • Uninstalling Eterna deletes its data from your browser. Make a backup first if you want to keep your notes. PERMISSIONS • Side panel: shows Eterna beside the page you are on. • Storage and unlimited storage: keep your notes, images and settings on your device, and stop Chrome from clearing them when disk space runs low. • Alarms and notifications: show the reminders you set, and tell you when a focus session ends. • Context menus and active tab: add "Save selection to Eterna" to the right-click menu, and record the page's title and address when you use it. Eterna cannot see your browsing history and adds nothing to the web pages you visit. From a page, it reads only the text you choose to save, with that page's title and address.
