A calmer and faster way to start browsing Mist replaces your default new tab with a lightweight, private and customizable dashboard. No account is required. Main features - Search with your existing Chrome search engine - Organize shortcuts into local groups with drag and drop and optional custom icons - Choose illustrated themes or create a custom theme from your own image - Customize the new-tab title, favicon and display - See the time, date, greeting and optional current weather - Track up to five selected market symbols - Run one local Pomodoro timer and follow up to three user-approved RSS feeds - Import or export your configuration as JSON - Share an appearance with a private, expiring link - Publish a wallpaper to the Community Hall of Fame with a required title and optional description and nickname - Discover recent or popular wallpapers, vote, report inappropriate content and import a wallpaper into Mist - Keep your preferences locally in your browser Private by design Mist contains no ads or accounts. Most settings and Pomodoro data remain local. Weather is optional and uses either a location you enter or an approximate IP-based city. Precise browser geolocation is never requested. Google favicons can be disabled; custom shortcut icons stay local. Market widgets send only the selected symbol to Mist's quote endpoint. RSS widgets contact only the exact HTTPS feed origin entered and approved by the user, omit credentials and referrer information, parse inert RSS or Atom data, and cache only the latest article locally. Feedback is sent only when you submit it. Private appearance links include only reviewed visual settings, are not indexed and expire after 30 days. Community wallpaper publishing is optional and requires confirmation that you have the right to share the image. A public submission contains the wallpaper, required title, optional description and optional nickname; without a nickname it appears as Anonymous. Image dimensions and size are detected automatically. Daily and weekly limits and duplicate detection reduce spam. Visitors can vote or report content. No shortcut, weather or browsing-history data is included.
