Minimal New Tab

Replaces Chrome's new tab with a minimal page. Strip away the noise — but a cat for comfort? That stays.

Minimal New Tab replaces Chrome's default new tab page with a minimal one. Chrome's default new tab page can include Gmail links, Google app shortcuts, news, and other distractions. Minimal New Tab removes those elements and gives you a quiet, near-empty page every time you open a new tab. No extra links, no feeds, no visual noise. Just the essentials, plus a cat if you need a little comfort. The page keeps the interface intentionally small: a centered NEW TAB label and, if you want it, an animated rear-facing line-art cat. The distractions go away, but the cat gets to stay. Choose Hide, Round, or Triangle. Settings are available from the toolbar popup. You can choose a theme (System, Light, or Dark) and a cat setting (Hide, Round, or Triangle). Changes are saved locally and applied immediately to open new tab pages. Minimal New Tab uses chrome_url_overrides.newtab to replace only the new tab page. It does not request any additional Chrome extension permissions.
