Overview

private, local AI: summarise & chat with gmails, pages, articles, PDFs. dictionary lookup. 100% local via Gemini Nano or Ollama.

metldr is fully free and open source. it came to be because the current AI extension chat apps flooding this store are filled with ads, subscriptions, data harvesting and tracking. i believe privacy and local AI should be the norm and accessible to all. ❧ 𝗴𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 & 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁 metldr lives inside your gmail (only gmail as of now). open a long, messy email thread, and it generates a concise summary, extracting dates and action items seamlessly in your gmail content area. it can also write smart replies, using the context of the conversation. not to mention having the ability to 'talk' with it via the side panel chat. ❧ 𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗲 / 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 & 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁 if you landed on an article or any text-heavy page, metldr respects your time by reading the page and giving the summary (in the side panel). if you want know more, you can just chat with the page. ask specific questions and get answers based strictly on what you're reading. ❧ 𝗽𝗱𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 & 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁 drag and drop any pdf into the extension, and it can summarise, for example, a 50-page pdf. and, just like the previous premiums, you can also talk with the pdf, with only its content in context. ❧ 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 & 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁 metldr remembers what you've read across your sessions (given you've summarised the content or talked with it). you can search and chat across all your previously summarised article, emails, and pdfs. ❧ 𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘂𝗽 / 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 double-click any word for an instant definition, synonyms, etc. it supports practically any language that modern AI can understand. it's pretty fast and convenient, staying out of your way until you need it. ❧ 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘀 & 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀 you can see some pretty neat built-in stats. for example, you can see how much time you've saved, how many words the AI has processed, how many words you've looked up, how much money you saved had you used any AI subscription services, and many more. ❧ 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗜 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 ◉ 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗼: also called chrome AI. this works out of the box. you just have to download it during first install of metldr (assuming it's not already downloaded in Chrome). ◉ 𝗢𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮. if you run (or want to run) giant models locally, metldr connects to them directly. ❧ 𝗖𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 to use metldr and the local AI gemini nano, please follow these one time steps (copy & paste the URLs): ◉ chrome version 138+ ◉ chrome://flags/#optimization-guide-on-device-model → Enabled BypassPerfRequirement ◉ chrome://flags/#prompt-api-for-gemini-nano → Enabled ◉ chrome://flags/#summarization-api-for-gemini-nano → Enabled ◉ chrome://flags/#writer-api-for-gemini-nano → Enabled ◉ chrome restart ◉ chrome://components → download "Optimization Guide On Device Model" (~1.5GB) once downloaded, the "Gemini Nano" status in the extension will turn ready, and you can enjoy private, unlimited AI for free. ❧ 𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 ◉ storage: at least 22GB of free disk space (in the volume that contains chrome). ◉ GPU (recommended): a GPU with at least 4GB of VRAM. ◉ CPU (alternative): If a suitable GPU is unavailable, at least 16GB of RAM or more, and at least 4 CPU cores. i aim to implement various more features going forward, since, after all this is v0.7.6. so if you want to provide any valuable feedback or suggestions on what to improve upon or what features to add, please feel free to use the review section or better yet, open an issue in metldr's github repository: https://github.com/WhiteHades/metldr. i would also appreciate if you could star said repository! i hope it serves you well.
