Overview

More than a speed test. Track broadband speed, quality, VoIP, outages & trends — automatically, in your toolbar.

Stop testing. Start watching. Most speed tests answer one question: how fast is my internet right now? That's useful once, then forgotten. SpeedWatch answers the question you actually care about — how good is my connection, day after day, across the things that really matter? More than a speed test: SpeedWatch is a continuous broadband monitor, quality grader, and diagnostic toolkit — all running from your browser toolbar. 🚀 ONE-CLICK SPEED TESTS Download, upload, latency, jitter, packet loss — measured via M-Lab's NDT7 protocol, the same framework used by regulators. Three sizes (Quick / Balanced / Thorough) trade duration for accuracy. 📈 SCHEDULED MONITORING Automatic tests from every 15 minutes up to every 24 hours. Daily cap of 100 tests keeps things reasonable and respects the shared infrastructure. Results refresh live in the popup and side pane— no reopening needed. 🏅 CONNECTION HEALTH GRADE Every test gets an A/B/C grade based on full TCP diagnostics — bufferbloat, packet loss, RTT variance, smooth RTT, min RTT. See at a glance whether your line is solid or struggling. 📞 VOIP QUALITY (MOS) Automatic Mean Opinion Score using the ITU-T G.107 E-model. Know before you dial whether your line can sustain a clear voice or video call. If Teams keeps dropping, SpeedWatch tells you why. 🌐 CONNECTION TYPE DETECTION SpeedWatch identifies VPN, mobile tether, or home broadband — via ASN/ISP matching, hostname analysis, country cross-checks, and jitter/asymmetry heuristics. VPN 🔒 and mobile 📱 results are clearly labelled so they don't skew your normal trends. 📍 POSTCODE-ACCURATE LOCATION Browser geolocation auto-detected and validated against Postcodes.io. Your full postcode tags results for honest area-level insights. Manual entry always available. 🏠 HOME NETWORK AWARENESS Tests from home go into your history and trends. Tests away (coffee shops, hotels, trains) show live results but stay out of your baseline — still available in CSV export if you want them. 📊 HISTORY · CHARTS · EXPORT • Local history in your browser (IndexedDB) — no server round-trips • Trend charts for download, upload, ping, MOS • Detailed hover tooltips per test • CSV export with every field (speed, quality, location, flags, diagnostics) 🎛 SIDE PANEL MODE Expand SpeedWatch into the browser's side panel for a richer view — bigger charts, fuller history, side-by-side with your work. 🛑 OUTAGE DETECTION Distinguishes real connection failures from test infrastructure hiccups. Patterns of failures are flagged so you can spot problems early. 🤝 COMMUNITY DATA (OPTIONAL) Opt in to share your anonymised results with the SpeedWatch community. See how your ISP compares against neighbours, or contribute to independent broadband research. 🇬🇧 UK-FOCUSED DETECTION Covers ~40 residential ISPs 🔐 PRIVACY BY DESIGN • No account. No sign-up. No email address. • No tracking cookies, no ad networks, no third-party analytics on your test data. • Test history stored locally on your device. • Community data is postcode-level only — no IPs, no house numbers, no names. • Transparent about what's sent where (M-Lab servers receive standard NDT7 test data). 📦 WHAT'S MEASURED Download speed · Upload speed · Latency / ping · Jitter · Packet loss · Bufferbloat · Smooth RTT · RTT variance · Min RTT · MOS · Connection grade · ISP (ASN detection) · VPN likelihood · Mobile/tethered indicator · Geohash · Postcode · Timestamp · Test server location 🛠 BUILT WITH OPEN STANDARDS M-Lab NDT7 for speed measurement · ITU-T G.107 E-model for VoIP · Postcodes.io for UK postcode validation · IP-to-ASN lookups for ISP detection. Runs entirely in your browser. No background installer, no system permissions beyond what Chrome/Edge grants. Clean install, clean uninstall, like any web extension. WHO USES SPEEDWATCH • Anyone paying for 200 Mbps and suspecting they're getting 80. • Remote workers needing VoIP that holds up through the afternoon. • Streamers and gamers who care about connection quality, not just raw numbers. • People switching providers — run SpeedWatch on the old line, then the new, for apples-to-apples evidence. • Broadband advocates, journalists, and researchers documenting UK broadband reality. • Curious people who like their own data. Install, run your first test, see results in under 30 seconds. No onboarding, no email, no catch. Stop testing. Start watching !
