Record Google Meet locally — the meeting tab or your whole screen, everyone's audio and your microphone, with a caption transcript.

Meet Recordly records a Google Meet call to your own computer — the meeting video, everyone's audio mixed with your microphone, and a transcript read from Meet's own captions. Nothing is uploaded. There is no account, no server, and no cloud processing. The extension makes no network requests of its own; recordings are written to your machine's storage and stay there until you download or delete them. WHAT IT RECORDS • This meeting tab — targets the tab by id, so switching tabs, opening your bank, or reading mail during the call records none of it. • The entire screen — for what the tab cannot show: a whiteboard app, a second monitor, something outside the browser. Either way your microphone is in the file. Meet's tab audio carries everyone except you, because Meet never plays your own voice back, so the extension takes the tab and the microphone separately and sums them into a single track. WHILE RECORDING • Pause and resume without starting a second file. The timer counts recorded length, not wall clock, so a five-minute pause never appears in it. • Mute your microphone in the recording only. The call still hears you. • Mark a moment with an optional one-line note. Marks become chapters in the library. • A pulsing red dot, a timer, the file size so far, and the transcript line count — on the page and in the toolbar popup, which also shows a live microphone level meter. Keyboard: Alt+Shift+R to start or stop, Alt+Shift+P to pause, Alt+Shift+M to mark. THE TRANSCRIPT Lines are read off the captions Meet already draws on screen, attributed to whoever Meet says spoke them. No speech recognition service is involved, because none is needed — and so nothing is sent anywhere to be transcribed. If captions are off, the extension switches them on for you. THE LIBRARY Play a recording with subtitles and click any transcript line to jump to that moment. Search runs over titles and transcript text, case- and accent-insensitively — typing "resume" finds "résumé". Chapters from your marks appear as a list and as ticks under the player. Talk time breaks the conversation down per speaker — share, duration, word count, speaker changes — with a strip chart you can click to jump to any turn. Download the video, an audio-only copy, and the transcript as Markdown, plain text, or WebVTT. Markdown leads with the chapters and the talk-time table, ready to paste into notes. QUALITY Audio-only, 480p, 720p or 1080p at 30fps. MP4 by default because it opens anywhere; WebM if you would rather a crash leave you a file that still plays up to the cut. WORTH KNOWING BEFORE YOU INSTALL • The transcript needs Google Meet. The toolbar icon records any tab, but away from Meet there is no transcript and no on-page control — and the popup says so up front rather than letting you find out afterwards. • Keep the Meet tab visible. Chrome may throttle a backgrounded tab and freeze the captured video; audio is unaffected. Put Meet in a separate window rather than a background tab. • Meet's caption markup changes without notice. When it breaks, the recording is completely unaffected — you simply get no transcript that time. • Uninstalling the extension deletes its recordings. Download anything you want to keep. • MP4 needs a recent Chrome. Older versions fall back to WebM automatically. RECORDING PEOPLE Recording a conversation without telling the other people in it is illegal in many jurisdictions and a bad idea in most of the rest. Meet Recordly is built to be visible while it runs — a toolbar badge, an on-page control, and Chrome's own sharing bar — but announcing it is still yours to do. Free. Requires Chrome 116 or newer.
