Meet Local Recorder
Overview
Record Google Meet locally. Optional free-model OpenRouter assistant answers questions from live captions in a separate window.
Record Google Meet locally. Keep your recordings and notes on your computer. Optional AI answers help you respond to meeting questions using your own OpenRouter API key. LOCAL RECORDING • Record the selected Meet tab, meeting audio and optional microphone audio while Meet detects you are unmuted. • Pause, resume, mark useful moments and stop/save from the toolbar or archive. • Switch tabs or apps while capture stays on the original Meet tab. Presentations are included only when rendered inside that tab. • Choose video quality or audio-only WebM, a download subfolder and an optional save-location prompt. • Keep local backups, replay recordings, search titles/notes, star meetings, and retry failed downloads. • Write notes, decisions and action items; export a Markdown meeting notebook. OPTIONAL MEETING ASSISTANT • Read recognized Meet live captions or type a question manually. • Request English answers to questions in other languages; caption and model language support varies. • Choose short sentences, brief bullets or a compact explanation, with simple, professional or friendly tone. • Stream answers as available and review before using them. • Use only openrouter/free or a model ID ending in :free. Paid models and paid fallback are disabled. • Limit recent context, output tokens, request frequency and daily request attempts. Cache matching successful questions within the meeting. • Automatic question detection is optional and best-effort; manual questions cover missed captions. WHAT'S NEW IN 0.4.2 Cancel a delayed start, keep Stop available during Pause/Resume, receive live status with keyboard controls, and recover clear errors when a control fails. Paused-time metadata and Windows download folder handling are improved. Desktop Chrome on Windows and Linux uses the same tab-based capture. CLEARER CONTROLS Setup guidance shows what is needed before recording. Assistant readiness explains key/recording/caption status. Settings show unsaved changes; Ctrl/Command+Enter submits a question. Token counts display when the provider returns them. Cancel, pause and stop discard stale AI work. PRIVACY AND SHARING Recording media, backups and notebook notes stay local. AI is off by default and must be enabled for a recording. When enabled, limited caption text and questions are sent directly to OpenRouter and its selected provider. The API key is kept only in trusted extension session storage, not the Meet page or local/sync storage. Requests exclude providers marked as collecting user data; if no eligible free provider is available, the request fails without relaxing that filter. Provider privacy policies still apply. Answers appear in a separate extension window, never on the Meet page. Meet recorder controls are hidden by default. A manual curtain and recognized presentation state cover answer content. These features do not block operating-system screenshots, full-screen recording or entire-screen sharing. Share a specific tab/app and keep the assistant outside that surface. Do not enter keys while sharing the assistant window. GET STARTED 1. Join Meet in desktop Chrome 116+ and refresh Meet after installation. 2. Open Setup & recordings, allow/select the microphone if wanted. 3. Open the toolbar and Start recording. Stop & save or leave the meeting to download the WebM. 4. For AI: open Meeting assistant, save your OpenRouter key, allow its optional connection, enable the assistant for this recording and turn on Meet captions or type a question. LIMITS Each recording requires an explicit start. Meet control detection currently supports the English interface and available mute attributes. Caption layout changes can require manual question entry. Free-model quotas, speed and availability vary; instant or universally correct answers are not guaranteed. No independent speech transcription, automatic summary or speaker labeling. Keep Chrome running; sleep, crashes, reloads or storage exhaustion can interrupt capture. Recovery is best-effort. Inform participants before recording and sharing meeting text with AI. Google Meet is a trademark of Google LLC; this independent extension is not affiliated with Google.
