Unofficial MaruMori app: Vocab highlighting for subtitles/transcripts with dictionary tools on Netflix, YouTube, and Japanese sites
Unofficial companion extension for MaruMori learners studying Japanese through subtitled video and native text. Subtitles and transcripts are colored by what you already know, with hover definitions on any word, furigana, and grammar detection with explanations. A sidebar lists every word and kanji on the page, sorted by JLPT level, known/unknown status, and how often it appears. Grammar lessons get a distraction-free reader view, review statistics, and read-aloud: explanations are spoken with your browser's own voices, switching between a Japanese and an English voice mid-sentence, while the lesson's own example recordings play as recorded. Also included: β’ Local Player β play a video file from your computer alongside its subtitle file, colored the same way β’ Import your own subtitles, a text file, or pasted Japanese text for the same treatment β’ A log of unknown words and recently watched videos, exportable for import β’ Optional AI features using your own API key, for translations, transcription and grammar help Works on major streaming and Japanese-learning sites, self-hosted media servers, and web book readers, wherever Japanese subtitles or text are available.
