Read Markdown in Chrome — a whole folder at a time. Most Markdown viewers show you one file. Markdown Workspace opens the folder: drag a directory onto Chrome and you get a sidebar file tree, with relative links between documents that actually work. A docs/ folder reads like a small site, with no build step and nothing uploaded anywhere. FINDING YOUR WAY AROUND • Outline — every heading in the open document, listed in the sidebar. It marks the section you are reading as you scroll, and takes you to any other. • Search — one query across every document in the folder, with results grouped by file and the matching line shown. Press Ctrl+Shift+F, or open the Search tab. Opening a result takes you to the section it is in. • File tree — click through a folder without leaving the browser, or narrow it by filename as you type. WHAT IT RENDERS • .md, .markdown, .mdown, .mkd and .mkdn files from your disk • Relative links and images between documents, resolved correctly • Syntax highlighting for code blocks • LaTeX math and Mermaid diagrams • Light, dark and system themes • Japanese, Chinese and Korean text, including wrapped lines ALSO • Remembers where you stopped reading, for each document • Works entirely from the keyboard, with the shortcuts listed in Settings • English and Japanese, following your browser's language PRIVACY Everything happens in your browser. No account, no server, no analytics, no telemetry. Your files are never uploaded — there is nowhere for them to go. Markdown on websites is ignored unless you add that site yourself. ONE SETUP STEP Chrome blocks extensions from reading local files until you allow it, and an extension cannot turn this on for you. After installing, open chrome://extensions, find Markdown Workspace, click Details, and enable "Allow access to file URLs". The extension shows these steps on first run and detects when it is done.
