Overview
Open local .md files by their path and read them beautifully. Live updates, highlights and notes. Private, no account.
MarkDeck turns local Markdown files into calm, readable documents, right in your browser. Open a .md file in your browser the way you open any file — drag it into a tab or press Cmd/Ctrl+O. The tab keeps the file's own address and shows it in MarkDeck, so reloading reads the latest version from disk and you stay exactly where you were. WHAT'S NEW IN 0.1.7 • Opens by its path: the file stays a file, and reload (F5) keeps your place. • Live updates: save the file in your editor and the change appears within two seconds, without losing your position or selection. • Highlights follow the document through edits, renames and copies — no questions asked. • A short guide on install shows exactly which browser switch to turn on for local files, and tells you when you're done. READ YOUR WAY • Five reading themes, six font choices (four bundled), adjustable size, spacing and width. • Table of contents, in-document search, reading progress and zen mode. • CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown: tables, task lists, code with syntax highlighting and exact copy, Mermaid diagrams. KEEP YOUR IDEAS • Highlight passages, add notes and jump back to them. Highlights that can't be placed after an edit wait for you with their original text. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, ads, analytics, telemetry or backend. Files are read on your device. • Remote documents and images load only after you allow that exact site. Local files need one browser setting: “Allow access to file URLs” (Chrome, Edge, Brave) or “Access local files on your computer” (Firefox). MarkDeck's guide opens it for you. Prefer not to? Choose a file each time instead. MarkDeck is a reader, not an editor. It opens .md, .markdown, .mkd and .mdx files and direct document URLs.
