Overview

Read Markdown comfortably in your browser. No accounts, subscriptions, or telemetry.

MarkDang turns Markdown files into a readable page in Chrome, with an outline, code highlighting, math, and diagrams. Built for reading project documentation and notes directly in the browser. Open a local file or a raw Markdown URL, and use the outline to move between sections without switching to an editor. What it does: - Reads .md, .markdown, .mdx, and .mkd files, with optional .txt support. - Offers light, dark, and system themes, adjustable fonts and content width, and custom CSS. - Renders tables, task lists, alerts, footnotes, KaTeX math, and Mermaid diagrams. - Provides an outline and file browsing for local folders or web folders with a directory index. - Includes source view, zen mode, print styles, code copying, image zoom, and optional auto refresh. - Supports English and Simplified Chinese, with automatic browser-language selection or a manual choice. For local files, enable “Allow access to file URLs” in the extension's Chrome details. Web documents must use a supported filename extension and be served as plain text or Markdown. MDX is displayed as Markdown; JSX, imports, and JavaScript are not executed. Clicking a task checkbox changes the view, not the original file. There are no accounts, subscriptions, ads, or telemetry. Rendering libraries and fonts are bundled, and preferences stay in the browser profile. Web documents, remote images, and custom CSS may still make requests to their hosts. PlantUML is off by default; if you enable it, diagram source is sent to www.plantuml.com for rendering. The code is available under PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 for personal and noncommercial use. Commercial use requires separate permission. Donations are optional and do not unlock features.
