Overview

Clip pages, AI chats, and RSS articles to Markdown. Edit in New Tab & Side Panel. Export PDF, DOCX, PNG. Local-first.

#### Short Description Local-first Markdown editor — New Tab or Side Panel. Bring in web clips, AI chats, RSS, and repositories as Markdown to rewrite. #### Main Description Mark It Down — Your browser, a writing desk. Open a new tab and the Markdown editor is already there. Nothing to launch. Free and local by default. No Mark It Down account needed. Take in an AI answer. Rewrite it in your own words. Send the finished note out. No AI writes for you. No account wall. Your notes live on your machine — and everything you write can leave as plain Markdown whenever you want. Sync is optional, and it goes to a Git repository you own. No hostages. Entry: Web Clipper — right-click any page or AI chat to save it as Markdown, preview it, then edit it in the Side Panel — right next to the chat it came from RSS Reader — read feeds in a full-screen workspace and save only the articles that matter to Inbox New Tab — open a tab and start writing. Search notes instantly from the address bar (`mid` + Space) Repository Reader — read a GitHub repository of Markdown notes with the links between them intact, and import what you need — including vaults kept in Obsidian's wikilink style Edit: Slash commands and a floating toolbar — rich formatting without learning Markdown syntax Diagrams, math, tables, and code — rendered as you type Command Palette — insert diagrams, tables, badges, and footnotes in a few keystrokes Find & Replace — across one note, or every note at once Note Log — write down why you changed something, right inside the note Link graph — see how your notes connect, and jump between them Pin a note's detail panel to read it without losing your place Toggle raw Markdown anytime to check the syntax underneath Paste AI output as-is — tables, code blocks, and math survive intact Focus Mode — keep the current line centered and distractions out of view, while your Markdown stays rendered Four themes — choose a writing surface that matches your environment Keyboard-first controls — move, format, and export without reaching for the mouse Obsidian-style wikilinks — keep `[[note]]` links readable when your notes need to move Move: One keypress for folders, Git, or a new note — no mouse required Four working folders keep things from piling up: Inbox, Template, Archive, Trash Exit: Export to PDF, DOCX, HTML, PNG, Markdown, and more — one note or a hundred Portability Hub — convert Markdown to match a static-site generator or publishing platform, using built-in presets Copy as Rich Text — paste formatted text into docs and email EPUB export — built-in chapter navigation for e-readers and screen readers OKF Export — package your notes and their Note Log history into a portable bundle you can open elsewhere Git: Your repository, your history — connect a GitHub or GitLab repository with your own access token Push happens only when you ask — never in the background Commit message editor — attach your Note Log entries directly to the commit Git-friendly Markdown keeps local-first notes readable outside the extension Git sync keeps your OKF bundle structure intact No tracking. No Mark It Down account. No Mark It Down server. No AI writing. No lock-in. Free, and writing works offline. Optional network features connect directly to the source or provider you choose. Just your intent and your words. https://markitdown.reduktion.dev/index.html #### Previously on Mark It Down… v2.3.4 — Steadier selection, safer note updates, and reachable Focus controls. Selecting text in link-heavy notes is smoother because the formatting toolbar no longer repeatedly repositions itself. Quote Selection keeps its status and quoted date after formatting changes while safe-write protection remains active. Focus Mode keeps the visible Sidebar above the header, so Today Entry and other top controls receive normal pointer clicks. After the Sidebar closes, Search and other neighboring header controls remain clickable. #### New on Mark It Down v2.3.5 — Portable export presets, clearer credits, and steadier clipping. Custom Export Action Presets can travel through a dedicated Git config while the active preset and current export choices stay local to each device. Help now identifies the main open-source building blocks, and the extension package includes generated third-party license notices. Web Clipper extraction keeps reference-table labels and removes unrelated card grids more consistently. RSS guidance now calls Archive, Template, and Trash actions “Move” instead of “Clear,” without changing where notes go.
