Manually zoom video to remove the black bars and fill an ultrawide 21:9 or 32:9 screen. Local only, no data collection.

Manual Video Zoom lets you enlarge the video you are watching until the black bars are gone and the picture fills your screen. It was built for ultrawide monitors — 21:9 and especially 32:9 — where almost every film and TV episode ends up inside a narrow strip with large black areas beside it. It is deliberately manual. You choose the zoom. The extension never changes anything on its own, and at 100% it changes nothing at all. HOW TO USE IT Start playback, go fullscreen, then open the extension popup. • Fill the frame — one button that calculates the exact zoom needed from the video element's own width and height. No guessing, and no inspection of the picture itself. • Or set it yourself: type any number from 100 to 400, drag the slider (the video updates live while you drag), tap a 100 / 125 / 150 / 200% preset, or hold − / + to step by 1%. • Reset returns the video to 100%. • Keyboard: Alt+Shift+U zooms in 1%, Alt+Shift+J zooms out 1%, Alt+Shift+K resets. Reassign them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. The zoom you choose is remembered per site, so the next episode and your next visit start where you left off. WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES It sets three CSS properties on the page's largest visible video element: scale, transform-origin and clip-path. That is the entire mechanism. The aspect ratio is preserved, so removing the bars necessarily crops the edges of the picture — the same trade-off a television makes when it zooms a 2.39:1 film to fit a 16:9 panel. It does not read, decode, capture, record or save video. It does not interact with DRM or protected media, and it does not disable or work around anything on any website. It is a display setting, not a media tool. WHERE IT WORKS A fixed list of major video sites is built in and works immediately, with no permission prompt. Chrome shows its own permission dialog; if you accept, that site keeps working afterwards, across reloads and browser restarts. There is also an "Allow every site" option in the popup's Site access section if you want it everywhere. You can review or remove any of this at chrome://extensions under Details → Site access. PRIVACY No data collection of any kind. There are no network requests in this extension — no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no remote code, no third-party libraries, no build step. The only thing saved is one number per site (the zoom percentage) in Chrome's local storage on this device. Chrome sync is not used. Uninstalling removes it. Videos inside iframes or shadow-root players are not reached. Picture-in-picture is not supported. • Subtitles that are separate HTML elements are not scaled. Subtitles burned into the picture are cropped along with the edges. • Player controls are not scaled. • A site's own CSS transforms or clipping can conflict with the zoom. Reset, or turn the extension off on that site. • A saved zoom also applies to trailers, ads and short-form video on the same site. Reset when you do not want that. • Playback on the built-in sites has not yet been tested in a signed-in session. The mechanism is verified; each site's own player is not.
