m3u8 Sniffer TV - Find and Play HLS Streaming URLs

Hi AKDUGI, thank you for your feedback! If you can specify the site you have had problems with (or email it to me) I can take a look at it to see if I can find the problem. That said, some streaming sites change somewhat frequently and sometimes implement security methods that prevent their streams from being viewed outside the site, including with the extension's video player.

Hi Shane, thanks for the feedback. I just checked Twitch and you are right that it is not seeing the m3u8 requests for it. I noticed something similar on another site and found that if the site is requesting the video from a service worker process it doesn't properly convey which browser tab the request is coming from, and that is why it is not showing in the extension. Update: A fix for this issue has now been released (v2.0.3) and the m3u8 requests from “unknown” tabs are handled by the “active” tab. Possible (rare) downsides of this approach will be detailed in the documentation of the next full release.

Hi, thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you saw the comment to clarify. I'll need to update the extension's description to avoid this confusion. I may add the recording functionality in the future, but that is not my focus at the moment. I can suggest the following chrome extension for recording video streams: it is just called "Stream Recorder" and you can get it from the chrome web store at: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/stream-recorder/iogidnfllpdhagebkblkgbfijkbkjdmm or you can use the standalone VLC program, it can do just about anything you want with videos, including recording the stream.

Hi Jeff, thank you for your feedback. I've also seen some sites that do what you describe and will probably add the ability to view the entire m3u8 link history for a site eventually. HLS m3u8 link sniffing is somewhat of an ongoing cat and mouse situation! At the moment my top priority is to finish the Auto Play features and automating error handling to allow the player to run continuously and unattended if possible (like a TV). This will currently only work as desired with sites for which the first m3u8 link found is the primary m3u8 link for the video stream. Fortunately most sites I have used behave in that manner.

This extension just makes that process easier and provides additional functionality which is described in detail in the extension's full documentation at: https://sniffertv.com/docs. I'm sorry you found the brief description misleading, There a quite a few other extensions that do a good job of downloading the actual video streams, so I wasn't so much interested in duplicating that functionality here. This extension is primarily designed to find and play the m3u8 URLs.
