Overview

The Moon and Sun path on Google maps and panoramas. Judge an unfamiliar spot before you drive out.

A map will not tell you whether a fence stands between you and the tower. Or whether the trees grew over ten years. You only see that in a photo taken from the ground. Lunar Frame Scouter draws the Moon's and the Sun's path straight onto Google panoramas and maps. You judge an unfamiliar place before driving out: whether the target is visible at all, when the Moon crosses its bearing, and how high the disc sits at that moment. WHAT IT DRAWS • The Moon's path for the chosen day, with a dot on every full hour • The disc at the chosen moment - at true angular scale, with the shape of the phase • Rise and set markers on the horizon • A vertical line at the target's bearing, and an edge arrow when the target falls outside the frame • The same for the Sun when you need it • On the map: bearing rays and a sky dial - the whole day's path over the chosen spot THE ANSWER YOU CAME FOR The panel gives you the hour the Moon crosses the target's bearing, the height of the disc at that moment, and whether the crossing falls inside the night window. With no target set, it shows the window where the disc and the lit ground fit into one frame. WHERE TO STAND A ray runs from the target away from the body. Stand anywhere on that line and the Moon - or the Sun - sits exactly behind the target at the chosen hour. ONE CONTINUOUS WORKFLOW Place the observer and the target on the map, then enter the panorama with one button: the camera already faces the target. Drive a little along the road until the fence stops blocking the view. Come back to the map with the same button, and the panel offers to move the observer to where you actually stood. Hand the finished point and hour to the Lunar Frame app with one click - no account needed anywhere. PRIVACY The extension has no server of its own and collects no analytics, no identifiers and no accounts. Your points, date and settings stay in your browser. Coordinates leave it only when you press the button that hands the plan to Lunar Frame or the one that opens a panorama. In a private window nothing is stored. Full privacy policy: https://scouter.lunarframe.pl/privacy/en WHAT IT WILL NOT DO - better to know up front • Panoramas exist along roads only. A point in the middle of a field has no coverage. • A photo can be a decade old. Trees grew, a building went up. • The Street View heading can be off by 1-2 degrees - hence the correction slider in the panel. • A target several kilometres away can be invisible through resolution and haze. Not seeing it in the photo does not prove it is blocked. • It does not draw a terrain silhouette from an elevation model. The terrain is in the photo, and adding a second source on top only mixes two truths. REQUIREMENTS Chrome 111 or newer, Firefox 140 or newer. Works on google.com/maps and google.pl/maps. Polish and English. Free, no ads, no account. Google Street View™ and Google Maps™ are trademarks of Google LLC. Lunar Frame Scouter is an independent tool, neither produced by nor affiliated with Google.
