Lumen for YouTube adds an ambient light around YouTube videos, starts every video in the quality you choose and can hide parts of YouTube you don't need. AMBIENT LIGHT The page around the video is lit in the colors of the picture, similar to a TV with backlighting. Each side takes its color from the nearby edge of the video, so a sunset on the left also glows warm on the left. The light follows the video smoothly and changes immediately at scene cuts. • Works in the normal and theater layout, in small windows, with vertical videos and live streams • Can ignore the black bars of movies and use the picture instead • Dark scenes stay black, which suits OLED screens • Fades out on end screens and while loading, and moves with the player when you scroll • Slightly darkens the page further down, so comments are easy to read • Brightness, color, reach, softness and smoothing are adjustable • Alt+A turns the light on or off, you can change the shortcut VIDEO QUALITY Videos start in the resolution and frame rate you set, also after ads. • Resolutions from 144p to 4320p, or always the highest available • Prefer 60 fps or limit to 30 fps • Uses the enhanced bitrate of YouTube Premium if your account has it • Optional codec setting (no AV1, or H.264 only) for devices that would otherwise decode in software and use more power • Can also apply to YouTube videos embedded on other websites CLEAN-UP • Hide Shorts in feeds, search, sidebar and menu • Hide the end screen cards in the last seconds of a video • Hide the suggestions shown after a video ends • Hide info cards and the channel watermark GOOD TO KNOW • The light is drawn on your graphics card and only runs while a video is open • Graphics acceleration must be turned on in Chrome for the light • The menu shows whether the light is on and why not, hovering over a setting explains it, right-clicking resets it PRIVACY Lumen collects no data and makes no network requests.
