Overview

Launch 200 OK on desktop or ChromeOS; set up and control its ChromeOS Linux server. Successor to Web Server for Chrome.

Launch and control 200 OK Web Server from Chrome on Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS. The successor to Web Server for Chrome. The extension preserves the familiar browser entry point while launching and controlling the modern native implementations. The extension itself does not contain the HTTP server. ON CHROMEOS Choose the implementation that fits your device and preferences: • The Android app offers the quickest setup when Google Play and Android apps are available. The extension can open the installed 200 OK Android app and provides direct Google Play and ChromeOS options links. Availability depends on the Chromebook, account, and administrator policy. • ChromeOS Linux works without Google Play and gives the extension full server controls. Install one small signed Linux component, then configure the served folder, port, directory listings, single-page-app fallback, CORS, and LAN listening from the extension. You can start and stop the server, check signed component updates, and opt into automatic updates while the server is stopped. • The Linux component supports x86_64 and ARM64 Chromebooks, plus compatible x86_64 ChromeOS Flex devices where the Linux development environment is available. After one Terminal installation, open 200 OK Linux from the ChromeOS Launcher whenever you want to use it. ON WINDOWS, MACOS, AND LINUX • Open the installed 200 OK desktop app directly from Chrome through native messaging. • If the desktop app is missing, go directly to the signed downloads for your platform. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS • The extension does not read browsing history or page content. • Access to the local ChromeOS Linux controller at penguin.linux.test is optional and requested only after you choose ChromeOS Linux. 200 OK Web Server is open source under the MIT License.
