Overview

Focus sessions with an AI gatekeeper. Block distracting sites; justify the ones you really need.

Locus is a focus extension that helps you maintain deep work by intelligently blocking distracting websites during your sessions. Unlike rigid blockers with fixed allow-lists, Locus uses AI to evaluate your reason for accessing blocked sites. Key Features Intelligent AI Gatekeeper - Try to visit a blocked site and the AI asks why you need it - Plausible reasons get a temporary pass; weak justifications are denied - Three difficulty levels (Lenient, Standard, Strict) adjust how strict the AI is - Customize the AI prompts yourself in Advanced Settings with full control over decision-making Calendar Integration (No OAuth) - Connect your calendar feeds without authentication (just paste an iCal URL) - Supports Google Calendar, iCloud, Outlook, Schoology, and Canvas - See upcoming assignments and events in the dashboard; click any to start a session with that event as your task Smart Drift Detection - Locus monitors if you're staying on-task while temporarily allowed sites are active - If it detects you're getting distracted (drifting off-topic), it revokes your access and sends you back to the blocker - Fully configurable: turn drift detection on/off and set the check interval Local Analytics Dashboard - Focus minutes tracked daily and weekly - Streak counter to encourage consistency - Session history and block attempt statistics - AI approval/denial breakdowns and drift revocation logs - Top blocked domains to identify your main distractions - 14-day bar chart to visualize your focus trends Customizable Experience - Light, dark, or system theme support - Optional notification sound when a site is blocked - Advanced mode to override the three core AI decision prompts with your own templates - Template variables: {task}, {domain}, {reason}, {harshness}, and more - Completely open-source (https://github.com/K-man1/locus-chrome-extension) Privacy-First - All analytics are stored locally on your device - No tracking, no telemetry, no cloud sync across devices - AI calls are proxied through a rate-limited service that holds no data about your sessions How It Works 1. Start a session: Type your task in the popup (or click a calendar event) 2. Block distractions: Every site is blocked except your Always Allowed list and obviously related websites (determined by AI) 3. Justify when needed: Try to visit a blocked site → explain why → AI decides 4. Stay accountable: Drift detection revokes access if you go off-task 5. Review your focus: Check the Analytics tab to see patterns and celebrate streaks Perfect For - Students managing assignment deadlines and study sessions - Developers avoiding Slack, Twitter, and news sites during focused code work - Writers maintaining flow without social media interruptions - Anyone building better focus habits with AI-powered accountability Requirements - Chrome 120 or later
