Overview

Choose your browser location on a map. Fixed, approximate, blocked, or real location with per-site rules.

Choose the location websites receive through Chrome’s JavaScript geolocation API. Location Guard Next lets you pick a place on a map, save favorite locations, and set different location rules for different websites. It starts with a fixed location in London. FOUR LOCATION MODES • Fixed: report a saved location or map pin without requesting your device’s real coordinates. • Approximate: add a random offset to your device’s location and reuse the result for a configurable period. The selected distance is an average displacement, not a guaranteed boundary. • Block: deny JavaScript geolocation requests without requesting your real coordinates. • Real: allow normal browser location results. You can make a site exception temporary. PICK AND SAVE PLACES Click a map, drag the pin, search for a city or address, or enter coordinates. Save and reorder locations, choose a default, and apply a location to the current website from the toolbar popup. Applying a map-picked pin saves coordinates only in the current website’s rule. Save as a place creates a reusable named location. Editing preserves the saved place’s identity; deletion offers Undo for 15 seconds. “Use my location” requests your device position only after you click it; save or apply the pin when you are ready. PER-SITE CONTROL Use one default for new websites and exact-hostname rules for exceptions. Rules apply to the top-level website and its frames. example.com and www.example.com have separate rules. Changes affect future requests; an open website may need a refresh. The toolbar pin shows a colored dot for the current site’s mode: blue for Fixed, purple for Approximate, red for Blocked, and amber for Real. Hover over it to see the mode and fixed place name. PAUSE AND RESUME The popup’s global Protection switch pauses protection across websites while retaining defaults, saved locations, and site rules. Paused requests use Chrome’s normal location permissions and results. Enable it again to restore saved policies for future requests. In Settings, choose manual resume or automatically resume after 5, 15, or 60 minutes. Changing this duration while paused restarts the timer; the deadline persists across browser restarts. YOUR PREFERENCES Choose Light, Dark, or System appearance for the popup and settings. Map colors are separate: Follow theme, Natural, Soft, Night, Dark red, Monochrome, Dark monochrome, and High contrast. Choose metric or imperial distance and accuracy displays; coordinates remain decimal degrees. Customize activity pages to show 10, 25, or 50 requests. Confirmations appear beside their actions; errors stay inline. Expand navigation groups and choose section links; navigation selection follows scrolling. PRIVACY AND DATA Settings, saved coordinates, and site rules stay on your device. There are no accounts, ads, analytics, or developer-operated data servers. An optional local activity log is off by default, limited to 500 requests, and records hostnames, modes, times, success/denial, and the coordinates sent to the website. Real mode and globally paused entries include real device coordinates; Approximate entries retain only the altered result. Activity filters and pagination help you inspect the log. Turning it off clears the history. Recorded coordinates open a read-only map. Backup & restore exports places, site rules, and preferences to local JSON without activity history or session caches. Review imported files before restoring; backups contain coordinates and website names. Opening a map sends your IP address and requested map area to OpenStreetMap. Submitting a place search sends your IP address and search text to Photon. Using your device location to center a map also requests tiles for that area. Approximate and Real modes use Chrome’s normal website permission system. Maps and search require an internet connection; saved places and coordinate entry remain available if providers are unavailable. LIMITS This extension changes JavaScript geolocation. It does not change your IP address, timezone, VPN, or operating-system location. Websites can use other signals or deliberately bypass patched JavaScript methods. Chrome internal pages and the Chrome Web Store cannot be protected. Fixed mode supplies selected coordinates even when native geolocation would be denied; use Block to disclose no coordinates through the patched API. No formally audited privacy guarantee is claimed. Location Guard Next is an independent extension and is not affiliated with the original Location Guard developer.
