Overview
Local File Explorer
Local File Explorer turns Chrome's new tab into a fast local file hub. It provides a cleaner way to browse local folders opened with `file://`, search indexed files quickly, and keep a lightweight note directly on the new tab page. The extension is designed for keyboard-first local navigation with minimal visual noise. Main features: - Open a default local folder from the toolbar or from a new tab - Replace the default `file://` directory view with a cleaner file explorer - Search indexed files by name, path, extension, type, size, and modified time - Build an index from the current folder or import an existing index file - Open folders and files quickly from search results - Keep a simple scratch note synced across new tabs - Use compact and list views for local browsing Important: - Users must enable `Allow access to file URLs` in the extension details page - All notes, preferences, recent paths, pinned paths, and search indexes are stored locally in the browser profile - The extension does not send file contents or search indexes to a remote server
