Overview
Reduces unnecessary loading and the related CO₂ emissions while you browse.
The web is getting heavier: higher video resolutions, autoplaying players, and platforms that often default to higher quality than we really need. But the web runs on electricity, and as of 2025, 33% of the world’s electricity still comes from coal, the fossil fuel that emits the most CO₂. Load Less helps counter that trend: it reduces unnecessary loading while you browse, starting with video-heavy parts of the web. The goal: a lower carbon footprint for everyday browsing. CURRENT FEATURES: - Automatically applies or suggests lower-impact video settings on YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Twitch, and YouTube/Vimeo embeds - Lowers YouTube videos playing in background tabs to minimum quality (144p) when it can save data - Prevents embedded YouTube and Vimeo players from fully loading until you choose to play them - Lets you turn the extension on or off anytime from the popup PRIVACY: Load Less does not collect any personal data. No tracking, no analytics, and no user data sent to external servers. Your settings stay stored locally in your browser.
