The web is getting heavier: higher video resolutions, autoplaying players, and platforms that often default to higher quality than we really need. But the web runs on electricity, and as of 2025, 33% of the world’s electricity still comes from coal, the fossil fuel that emits the most CO₂. Load Less helps counter that trend: it reduces unnecessary loading while you browse, starting with video-heavy parts of the web. The goal: a lower carbon footprint for everyday browsing. CURRENT FEATURES - Automatically caps YouTube video quality to 360p or 480p - Switches YouTube videos playing in background tabs to minimum quality (144p) when it can save data - Prevents embedded video players from fully loading until you choose to play them - Shows quality suggestions on supported streaming sites - Lets you control or disable these features at any time from the popup No tracking and no data collection. Load Less does not use tracking, ads, analytics, or external servers to process user data.
