Overview

Rename a tab in two clicks, search saved titles in history, sync across devices. No account, no ads.

RenTab is a lightweight chrome extension that lets you rename any tab with a custom title, so you always know why every browser page is open and what it was for. The new title appears right in the tab. It survives reloads. There is no account, no tracking, no ads. 😩 If you keep dozens of pages open, you already know the problem. Ten of them all say the same thing, the titles get cut off, and you waste time clicking through one by one. A short, meaningful label fixes that instantly. 🏷️ Rename any tab Tired of titles that all read the same? With RenTab you can label a tab in two clicks. Give it something that actually means something to you. The new title replaces the default one completely. It survives page reloads, even on single-page apps that try to reset it on their own. Set it once and it sticks for good. 🏷️ Give a tab a short custom title like client a, invoice draft or read later 🌐 Rename tab titles in any browser without touching the page itself 🔧 Fix tab names in chrome that are too generic 👀 Keep titles readable at a glance across your whole window 🖱️ Right-click the toolbar icon to set or remove a title without opening the popup 🔎 Search and revisit every title you saved Renaming a tab is only half the job. Finding it again later is the other half. Open the History tab inside RenTab to search every title you have ever saved, jump straight back to that page, or clean up entries you no longer need. 1️⃣ label tabs as you go, no extra steps 2️⃣ search saved entries by keyword or by site 3️⃣ click any entry to reopen that exact page 4️⃣ delete old entries you no longer need A clear label beats memory. Open pages are easy to forget. Your brain was never meant to track twenty of them at once. One short label turns a messy strip of look-alike tabs into a map of what you are doing and why. ✅ Key features 🏷️ Rename any tab with a custom title in two clicks 🔄 Titles that survive reloads and SPA resets 🔍 Search and browse every saved title in History ☁️ Optional chrome sync to share titles across your devices 📦 Export and import your data as json for backup 🌙 Dark mode for comfortable late-night work 🚫 No account, no tracking, no ads 🔒 Private by default Everything you save in RenTab stays locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server. There is nothing to sign up for. Want your titles on every machine? Turn on optional chrome sync in Settings. That is your choice, not ours. 📌 Tip: keep the label short and specific. You can always search for it later in History if you forget which page it was. 💡 Who is it for 🔬 Researchers juggling many sources, one label per topic 💻 Developers and designers who tag a tab for each ticket or branch ✍️ Writers who label each draft they keep open 🎧 Support and sales teams who tag a tab for each conversation 🤔 Anyone who forgets why a tab is even open How to use RenTab: 1. open the page you want to label 2. click the RenTab icon in the toolbar 3. type a short, custom title 4. hit save — the new title appears immediately and replaces the old one You can also right-click the toolbar icon to set or remove a title without opening the popup. That makes it fast to work through one tab after another. Everything you save is searchable in History, so even after closing a page you can find the title you gave it and reopen it in one click, picking up exactly where you left off. ❓ Frequently asked questions 🔁 Does RenTab rename the page permanently? The title stays in place and survives reloads. Remove it, and the original title comes right back. You can undo a change any time. 💾 Where is my data stored? Locally in your browser by default. Enable chrome sync in Settings, and your titles travel with your chrome account across devices. 📤 Can I export my saved titles? Yes. Open Settings and use Export JSON to back up everything, or Import JSON to restore it on another browser. 🌍 Will it work on every site? On almost every normal web page. A few restricted system pages will save the title but may not display it in the tab itself. RenTab tells you when that happens, so you are never left guessing. ⚡ Does it slow down my browser? No. RenTab is tiny. It runs only when needed and stores everything locally, so your browsing stays fast no matter how many tabs you keep open. 🎯 Stop losing track of your pages. Give each one a title that actually means something, and find it again later in History whenever you need it back — quietly, privately, right where you need it most.
