DriftGuard - Adblock and Advanced Page Control
Overview
Blocks popups, click traps, overlays, ad payloads, scroll locks, fingerprinting, and adds request inspection and reports.
*** This is a pilot test of a very aggresive control platoform with network forensics detection. It should be considered a test bed to see what is loading, where its happening, what files are being activated and how they are used. While adblockers typically use host files, this lets you actively control the behaviors and flow of traffic to you by directly controlling what is loaded. You will likely encounter bugs and I encourage you to submit reports to better tune the platform. *** DriftGuard is an advanced browser control and inspection extension designed to give users more visibility into — and control over — what web pages are doing while they load and run. Modern websites can launch popups, create overlays, intercept clicks, lock scrolling, open unwanted windows, load tracking resources, redirect navigation, inject advertising components, and execute scripts that are difficult to understand or control. DriftGuard provides a collection of configurable tools for inspecting and limiting those behaviors while allowing protection levels to be adjusted on a per-site basis. Unlike a traditional ad blocker, DriftGuard focuses on page behavior, interaction control, navigation activity, loaded resources, and troubleshooting. CORE PROTECTION FEATURES DriftGuard can help identify or control behaviors including: • Intrusive popups and unwanted windows • window.open activity • Click traps and interaction hijacking • Full-page overlays and obstructive page elements • Scroll locking • Suspicious redirects and navigation changes • Advertising and video-ad related payloads • Embedded third-party resources • Tracking and fingerprinting behavior • Unwanted or suspicious script activity • Domains and resources manually blocked by the user Protection features are configurable so users can reduce enforcement on websites that require more permissive behavior. PER-SITE CONTROL Not every website behaves the same way. DriftGuard supports site-specific control so protection can be adjusted without applying the same rules everywhere. A website that requires certain scripts, popups, embedded frames, or navigation behavior can be configured differently from a website where stronger blocking is desired. Controls can be enabled or disabled individually, allowing users to decide how aggressively DriftGuard should interact with each site. When protection is disabled for a site, DriftGuard is designed to stop interfering with normal page interaction rather than leaving hidden blocking behavior active in the background. PROTECTION LEVELS DriftGuard includes adjustable protection levels for users who want quick control without manually configuring every option. Lower levels can provide lighter monitoring and blocking, while higher levels can apply more aggressive protections. Individual safeguards can still be adjusted when additional control is needed. This makes DriftGuard useful both as an everyday browsing tool and as a troubleshooting utility when investigating problematic websites. THREAT CONSOLE The Threat Console provides a centralized view of activity detected during browsing. Instead of silently blocking everything without explanation, DriftGuard allows users to inspect what was detected and better understand why a page behaved a certain way. Depending on page activity, the console can provide information about blocked or observed events, domains, resources, redirects, and other page behavior. PAGE LOAD SUMMARY The Page Load Summary provides a higher-level view of activity observed while a page loads. This can help identify: • Unexpected third-party domains • Advertising or tracking infrastructure • Embedded services • Scripts or resources loaded during page startup • Repeated or unusual requests • Resources associated with page behavior problems Live monitoring can be paused so the display remains stationary while information is being reviewed. DOMAIN SUMMARY The Domain Summary groups observed activity by domain, making it easier to understand which external services a website communicates with. This is especially useful on pages that load resources from dozens of advertising, analytics, CDN, media, tracking, authentication, or embedded-service providers. Users can inspect domains individually and manually block selected domains when appropriate. Manual blocking remains under user control and can be removed when a blocked resource is required for a website to function correctly. REDIRECT FORENSICS Redirect Forensics helps expose navigation chains and redirect behavior that may otherwise occur too quickly to inspect. This can be useful when troubleshooting pages that: • Send users through several intermediate URLs • Trigger unexpected navigation • Attempt to open advertising or tracking destinations • Use temporary or hidden redirect mechanisms • Behave differently after clicks or page interaction Redirect information can be reviewed without requiring the user to catch every navigation event manually. EMBEDDED RESOURCE INSPECTION DriftGuard can display embedded resources detected on a page, providing additional visibility into external content and services loaded by the website. This can include resources associated with: • Frames • Media • Scripts • Advertising systems • Tracking systems • External services • Content delivery networks The embedded-resource view is intended as an inspection and troubleshooting tool rather than an assumption that every external resource is malicious. REQUEST AND RESOURCE INSPECTION DriftGuard provides tools for examining page requests and loaded resources to help users understand where page components are coming from. This is particularly useful when diagnosing: • Unexpected advertisements • Broken page behavior • Unknown tracking requests • Excessive third-party loading • Redirect sources • Resources responsible for overlays or interaction problems This information can also help advanced users determine whether a particular domain should be blocked or allowed. FINGERPRINTING DETECTION DriftGuard can identify browser behaviors commonly associated with fingerprinting techniques. Fingerprinting detection is provided for visibility and investigation. Detection does not automatically mean that a website is malicious. Many legitimate websites use browser APIs for graphics, media, security, authentication, analytics, or compatibility testing. DriftGuard exposes this activity so users can make their own decisions about the websites they visit. OVERLAY AND CLICK PROTECTION Some websites create invisible or obstructive layers that sit over legitimate page controls. These techniques can prevent users from clicking normal buttons, redirect clicks elsewhere, cover
