Vistra: OCR & Translate

OCR + translation across web pages, captured images, and the system clipboard.

🌐 A Chrome Manifest V3 extension that brings OCR + translation to web pages, captured screenshots, clipboard images, and selected text. 🚀 Features 🌍 Translate entire page: Popup → Translate Page, or Ctrl/⌘+Shift+Y. Captures the visible viewport, runs OCR on it, and draws the translated text directly over the original, in place. ✂️ Crop & translate: Popup → Crop & Translate, or Ctrl/⌘+Shift+X. Drag a box around any region; the translation is drawn over the original text, with a card showing the detected language and a 🔊 listen button. 📋 Clipboard image translate: Popup → Clipboard tab → paste (Ctrl+V), drop an image, or read from clipboard. OCR runs automatically and draws the translation over the image, Google Lens-style. The raw recognized text also appears in an editable box below the image, so you can correct any OCR misreads and re-translate just that text without redoing OCR. 📝 Text translate: Popup → Text tab, or select text on any page → right-click → Translate with Vistra for an instant floating translation. 🗣️ Copy & listen: Every translated result (Text tab and Clipboard tab) has a one-click copy-to-clipboard button and a 🔊 listen button that reads the translation aloud in the target language via the Web Speech API. 🖼️ Open or download the translated image: Once a clipboard image is translated, you can open a full-size version with the overlay baked in as a single PNG in a new tab, or download it directly with one click. 🏳️ 26 languages, no unreliable auto-detect: The source/target dropdowns list every language OCR.space's recognition engine supports. There's no "detect language" option, since OCR.space has no real auto-detect and silently mangles non-Latin text if you ask it to guess; you pick both languages explicitly, and a swap button flips them. ⌨️ Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl/⌘+Shift+Y for Translate Page, Ctrl/⌘+Shift+X for Crop & Translate, shown as chips in Settings. ⚙️ Settings: An OCR.space API key field (with show/hide toggle and a one-click connection test) and your language preferences, all synced via chrome.storage.sync. 🔒 Privacy first: Every action (capture, clipboard read, OCR call, translation call) only runs when you explicitly trigger it.
